It may be that I haven't got the seat adjusted correctly, but it feels like my lower back just doesn't fit between the bolsters on the seat.

Firstly, there is a very loud rattle coming from the rear of the car which wasn't there when I went for a test drive in it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello to all. I have just had a weeks holiday and collected my C4S cab, which is my first introduction to Porsche ownership. I bought it from an OPC and the car is in great condition. I have covered about 250 miles in it so far and I have a couple of simple questions: Firstly, there is a very loud rattle coming from the rear of the car which wasn't there when I went for a test drive in it. I test drove it without the hardtop on, but with the canvas roof up. Could the hardtop have been incorrectly installed, or is this rattle common when it is on? It is either something to do with the roof or something in the engine bay flapping about. Secondly, I keep getting back ache after I have driven the car. It has the hard-backed seats. I am not overly large, but I am 6' 1" and about 13.5 st, so not exactly small. Does anyone else suffer from this, or have a suggestion as to what to do. It may be that I haven't got the seat adjusted correctly, but it feels like my lower back just doesn't fit between the bolsters on the seat. Thirdly, this is now my daily drive and I do about 250 miles a week. Whilst I am not too bothered by fuel consumption, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the computer says I am averaging 28mpg. Is this realistic if not driven too hard - i.e 70-80mph on motorway drives, or is the on board computer known to be way off? Lee

:welcome: There is a 14 page Technical Service Bulletin on hartop rattles. If you would like a copy, drop me a PM with your email address. I am the same height and almost the same weight as you, and had the same problem with the sports seats. I put a firm foam pad, about 3/4" thick (about 8" x 6") behind the centre panel of the seat back, near the bottom. It worked for me. It doesn't surprise me that you are getting close to 30mpg on a motorway run at about 75mph. You can watch it drop off a lot when you start cruising at over about 85, but it is still pretty reasonable.

Thanks for the helpful advice Richard

...that's great about the backache. I've had similar for about a year, about the time I bought my 996. Thought I might be passing a kidney stone so actually relieved it's an issue with the seats. When you consider the twisting and bending as well to get in and out it's no wonder. I'm going to revert to the RangerRover for a while and see what happens. Good luck on cushion front. Dave

POST 5Original post

I found the seats wildly uncomfortable, I'm just shy of 6ft and the way that the seats close in at about shoulderblade level was torturous after a 20 minutes or so. I quite like sitting quite low in a car, so I don't see the bonnet, however raising the seat a couple of notches helped my pain no end. Neuro
