It is possible to change the gaskets without removing and exhaust parts but it is a fiddley job with the lack of room.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

just had oil changed and the old oil was like sludge!! took a few flushes to get it all out!! anyway since this i now have a couple of oil leaks look to be coming from near the coil packs on the plugs, only leaks when running!! think maybe tyhe old oil was too thick to escape but the new stuff is flying out, any ideas fellas?? thanks in advance neil.

POST 2Original post

Spark plug tubes & seals. Not a major job for an indy.

POST 3Original post

A pretty obvious one by the sounds of it. The thinner oil will find weak points in gaskets. I would say the rocker cover gaskets need doing (quite common). A decent garage will salvage the oil and put it back in as it is new. It is possible to change the gaskets without removing and exhaust parts but it is a fiddley job with the lack of room. You will get a horrid burning smell after the slightest thrash.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that sounds like it could be it, not sure why oil gets up there though??

POST 5Original post

I will be doing my RCGs soon, do you know if the 6 seals come with the gaskets or are they seperate? Cheers

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

brill cheers does anyone have any photos of these tubes and seals or even a part number?? must be them i guess, the rocker gasket is not leaking, cheers neil.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

ah does this come as a kit then?? cheers

POST 8Original post

On the 3.4 996's the spark plug tubes span the gap between the underside of the cam cover and the top of the cylinder head. They are plastic, and have an 'O' ring seal on each end (item 27). There is a lot of oil splashing around in there when the engine is running. On the 3.6 they did away with the tubes, and modified the cam carrier to act in the same way.
