Suspected cause
Actually, the title should stay the same because from what I can tell, the OP thought that doing the reset was going to get the Sport Chrono-ized throttle re-map, which, after reading the thread he/she was referring to turned out to be resetting the adaptive throttle in the computer.

Suggestion
There have been people who, for whatever reason, had their ECUs reset by the dealer and found throttle response to be better because of this, but don't mistake this for the alternate mapping in Sport Chrono's sport mode.

Anyway, here is one thing might surprise you, (if you haven't heard it yet) it explains easy steps to reset throttle adaptation setting free.

jinijazz - thanks for the link - I just took a look through that thread you reference above, and what they are talking about is resetting the throttle adaptation feature that many cars - including the Porsches have - the computer adapts to or "learns" your driving style and thus tries to anticipate what it thinks you want.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm relatively new here, post rarely. After all, I don't even have Cayman
but I have to thank everyone on this very informative board. Not to mention all the helps I got from
KMan-S
, I even got free desnork mesh material from
RussK
. What a great community you have here, fine example of what Porsche club should be. I'm of course very jeoulous, wish we had 987 board like this.
Anyway, here is one thing might surprise you, (if you haven't heard it yet) it explains easy steps to reset throttle adaptation setting free. I did on my Mercedes with great result, but haven't tried on my 987. Let me know what you guys think.
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
here is one link for Mercedes, but google it, you will find it for virtually every car.

Just because this may or may not work on a Mercedes-Benz does not mean Porsche cars have this same feature. And I don't believe this works on P-cars.
Incidentally, "Free Sport Chrono" is a bit misleading, don't you think? Sport Chrono is more than just a throttle remap.
Well, Porsches are not "virtually every car." You can go ahead and try it - but it ain't gonna happen - Porsches, compared to M-Bs are almost custom made in comparison - they have wiring harnesses that are unique to the vehicle and it's particular set of factory options. The ECU programming is the same way - if you don't have Sport Chrono on your car, then the wiring does not exist behind that spot where the "sport" button would be, so going out and getting a button to put there would look cool, but be terribly useless. The ECU would not contain the alternate throttle mapping so pushing your gas pedal to the floor, or dancing around the car and chanting "free Sport Chrono package" will have right about the same effect - nada... Otherwise, happy motoring!

Well, this should work on all cars with electronic throttle control according to the link below. Porsche is no different as fas as I know.

There have been enough heated debate for sometime, so I'm not here to argue about it. Desnork or not, it's you choice. Same with this. Just information for those who are interested.
yeah take it easy on jinijazz, hes just trying to give you some useful info. if you dont want it the back button is on the top left of your computer screen
jinijazz - thanks for the link - I just took a look through that thread you reference above, and what they are talking about is resetting the throttle adaptation feature that many cars - including the Porsches have - the computer adapts to or "learns" your driving style and thus tries to anticipate what it thinks you want. If you drive aggressively (or not) it "learns" your style. If you drive non-aggressively and then want to get aggressive, it has to "re-learn" and thus your throttle response may be sluggish. Resetting this will start the process all over again. This is far different than the alternate throttle mapping in the ECU under the sport mode for any new Porsche.
There have been people who, for whatever reason, had their ECUs reset by the dealer and found throttle response to be better because of this, but don't mistake this for the alternate mapping in Sport Chrono's sport mode.

Agreed. Mods how about changing the title of this thread
Resetting the ECU adaptive learning is certainly not a Free sport Chrono.
Its also not a Cayman Modification....
My wife has an MB and therefore whilst not relevant to P forum, I am happy you posted it and I will give it a go. I would never scour through MB forums to find this
Actually, the title should stay the same because from what I can tell, the OP thought that doing the reset was going to get the Sport Chrono-ized throttle re-map, which, after reading the thread he/she was referring to turned out to be resetting the adaptive throttle in the computer. And, we don't even know if that's how you do it in a recent vintage Porsche. I think there's some things for people to learn in this thread, and it ought to stay. I've seen much worse titles, too.
jinijazz - No need to apologize really, you're new, your intentions were good, don't worry about it.
brad
hey, i also own an MB and i've tried that before. and it works very well!
thanks, i'll try it out once i have the time.
btw, this trick does not help to get 0-100 timing to be faster or to get a free sport chrono. all it does is just re setting the ECU. since almost modern cars have this function that will learn the way you drive, if you dont drive it hard, the car will get used to it and it will always be like that.
so after you get this trick done, the ECU will be reset and it will drive just like a brand new car.
well, that's just my opinion. enjoy !
