Are there people out there really filling thier Porsches with anything less than 98 RON?

So for us in the US this means that Porsche is recommending 93 and saying 90 is minimum.

Between your CS driving off (that MillTek sounded sublime when you left) and a couple of others this week- James and I are pretty much set on adding another shop car.
Use (r+m) /2 methodor (ron+ motor octane number)/2

Here is the US we use the (R+M) /2 methodor (RON+ Motor Octane Number)/2 to state overall octane at the pumps.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

It's not as easy as on the 996 but it's still not too bad.
Hi folks, just an FYI that the brand new 07 Cayman S' (new ECU part numbers) now have a GIAC flash file available as well. The rev limiter is set to 7500 (7300 rpm is stock) and we are seeing ~ 20-25 HP gain with the flash, intake and exhaust. Feel free to drop me an Email/PM for more details but you can either find your local GIAC dealer or simply send the ECU to us and we can next day it back to you.
Hey Everyone,
Alex and James at Sharkwerks installed the new GIAC Chip in my CS last night. You can feel and see a very DRAMATIC difference with the "sport" PASM feature on. The throttle response, etc. is amazing. You will also see it in normal mode as well, just not as aparent.
Alex and James did a great job...done in 15 minutes! Thanks Alex!
Hi Alias, seriously thanks for the kind words and so glad you're enjoying it. The nice thing about the complexity of the Bosch ME7.8 is that Garrett can do more than just add HP, the fact that we get better throttle response and E-gas remapping is neat.
Between your CS driving off (that MillTek sounded sublime when you left) and a couple of others this week- James and I are pretty much set on adding another shop car. I spent some of today talking to another customer/friend of mine who was tracking his Cayman S (bear in mind he we've built a GT640 GT2, GT700 996TT, a 996GT3 for him in the past) and he couldn't stop raving about it. With a few tweaks these cars are so poised on the track and street.
Kreggin, the GIAC flash has been available for the 06 Cayman S for some time. You can either send it in to us to flash or find someone local to you. Same deal as there are files for stock rev limiter or 7500rpms...
Sharky, I have a question about the raising of the redline to 7500? No long term ill-effects? I presume the stock 7300 rev-limit was more of a precautionary measure than the true breaking point of the motor?
Also, for those without sports package, can you modulate the throttle mapping for non sport cars to be sport all the time?
Hi SpeedRacerS,
You're absolutely right. Another 200rpms isn't a lot of added stress. We like to use that version of the file for track guys so they can stay in gear a fraction longer etc...
On the second part... without the sport mode you do just get the better e-gas remapping the whole time, you are right.
Hi Need Cayman,
We'd need to know a few things in terms of the type of gas you use and then what mods you have but otherwise yes, you'd need to send the ECU out to us and we'd flash it and send it back etc...
Are there people out there really filling thier Porsches with anything less than 98 RON?
What does the fuel grade have to do with anything?
thanks for the fast response.
Hi needcayman.. actually even in the US we have different states with different octane levels and thus grades of gas. Anywhere from 94 to 91 (in California for example). The octane rating has a lot to do with tuning and what can/cannot be done so it's pivotal in terms of timing etc...
Copy from other thread
Keep in mind 98 and 95 is the (Research Octane Number) RON value. Here is the US we use the (R+M) /2 methodor (RON+ Motor Octane Number)/2 to state overall octane at the pumps. So for us in the US this means that Porsche is recommending 93 and saying 90 is minimum.
hey mohsen, I actually walked someone through this on Friday over the phone. It's not as easy as on the 996 but it's still not too bad. Drop
[email removed]
an Email and we'll go from there
Thanks for the responses/feedback guys- glad you're liking it
As I was saying a bit more pep/HP is part but the remapping of the E-gas is also a neat party trick. I'd still prefer we had a real throttle cable (just like 99 C2s) but if we're going to have E-gas, then we might as well remap it...
PS If anyone else needs help with ECU removal let me know and I'll walk you through it. Not too hard really...
