The GIAC sales guy said that the ECU will 'adjust' to the exhaust / airfilter even if I had the ECU done ahead of the other mods?
Leading evidence: 'Adjust '' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust '' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im considering an ECU remap. Seems like there are limited options right now but Revo (California) appear to have a cayman s product that delivers 15-20bhp which seems more than most. Has anyone got experience of Revo. Here in the UK I have never heard of them but get the impression from the website that they are reputable in the US. Any advice / experiences much appreciated.
Terry
I believe they are coming onboard as a sponsor soon. They are well known in the US but I have not seen a Cayman with their software in person yet. I think Neil Orton at Orton Performance has done a few Caymans with the REVO programming and could probably give you some first hand results.
Hi Terry,
Revotechnik is actually a UK company. Their main client are cars from VWs group ie VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat and had a loyal fan base with good review. They also do Porsche (Surprise! Surprise!) I am planing to fit one after I fit the porsche sport exhaust+/-milltek manifold ie Jan 07. I will let everyone know my verdict after!!
Superchip is also a UK company which does not specialise in any manufacterer. You might even consider DMS or AMD!!!
Neil,
Care to ellaborate? I understand Wendland has a software package that really brings the middle of the RPM range to life. Any chance this is your programmer?
Gator Bite.
It's not Wendland.I am working with a programmer from Germany who is very well known in Europe.I can tell you that he has done and still does ECU work for the premier Porsche tuner in the world.
Neil
Silly question: should I get the airfilter and exhaust fitted before the ECU re-map? The GIAC sales guy said that the ECU will 'adjust' to the exhaust / airfilter even if I had the ECU done ahead of the other mods? Here in Europe the Milltek exhaust is on a 8 week lead time - so ideally I would get the ECU and filter now and the exhaust later. Is this a mistake?
Terry
terry...the GIAC guy is correct. The change in airflow is not significant enough to warrant a full retune (or different mapping) as you will not exceed the parameters of the tuned chip. The ecu is adaptive within a certain window of change to accomodate for dirty filters and such. This why there is only one program offered by most chip tuners like GIAC, REVO, Orton, etc.. This isn't to sat that a custom chip made by a competent tuner with your car on a dyno isn't more ideal. Its just confirming that if you get the chip before the I/E mods, it will adapt later once you do the mods and run the same way it would if you installed them in the reverse order.

This is really helpful guys - many thanks. Having used the Cayman club as a fantastic source of information I have decided to go for the following:
Step 1. De snork + Evo Filter + AWE cat back
Step 2. Milltek Headers + Revo stage 2 re-map
Sadly I will need to do each stage at a different dealer here in the UK. Hopefully its a good plan! If you think its a mistake let me know asap!!
Terry
Lets hope any price offering will be a more realistic one than that offered by others, else no way I will be wasting $ for something with a minor improvement.

This is an email I received from George at REVO.

All of our software has the ability to switch. You simply need to
purchase one of our switching devices in order to achieve it. The SPS
select includes 91 and 93 octane programs. The SPS Select-Plus
actually
allows one to TUNE their car to a specific driving environment. The
Select-Plus features boost, fuel, timing and throttle sensitivity
adjustments so it has MUCH more range than simply switching between two
octane based programs. You should probably decide which is the best
option
for you.
The SPS-select retails for $199.00. The Select-Plus retails for
$349.00. This is over and above the cost of the programming
As for the various stages, yes, you can get the Stage-1 file now and
then upgrade to the Stage-2 program later. You would then only have to
pay
the difference, $50.00, and any flash fee the local dealer my
implement.
I will have a dyno shortly of a Cayman S with a Milltek exhaust and
intake making 335-340 hp on our standard flash. Once I get it I'll
forward
you a copy.

yeah, notice he says 1) swich between different octane programs and 2) exhaust and inake on standard flash. Which is what I was saying as well. The standard flash is more than flexible enough for basic bolt-ons.
make sure you post the dyno plots when you get them please....

It would be nice if they posted the actual rear wheel horsepower and not their projected engine horsepower ccc4321 as without knowing what their drivetrain loss calculation is there's no way to compare it to other dyno runs of other modified Caymans.
craignyc,
Sorry I didn't spot that. So did they ever give you actual rear wheel numbers in addition to projected crank horsepower? Especially before and afters for each separate modification?
not yet, but I am putting the underdrive pulley on this week and will have it re-dynod and I will get wheel hp. Also FL does it's own tweaking of revo software.
My experience...
Agree with K-Man S on the baseline issue. However, I have the Revo Stage II software with a similar setup on my Cayman RS project car (full Milltek exhaust, BMC foam air filter instead of a cone intake, de-snork mod, MantisSport pulley) and the car is pretty damn perky. Farnbacher Loles did the tuning.
No one should expect miracles with reflash on a n.a. car, but if you're trying to wring every last little bit of h.p, out of the thing, it can certainly help at the margins. If you make the purchase with that in mind, you'll be happy with either Revo (which I also had on my GT3 Evo) or GIAC.

Thanks for the Revo update. I agree as well, RWHP is what we want to see. Correction factors are "guesstimates". Are any of you going to be at FBL for in early March for the Zone 1 Tech Tactics? I'd like to hear the feedback on the PS underdrive pulley as well.
