5k to spend on upgrades...advice please

I have been saving hard to enable me to buy some goodies for my 3.4 C4, I have around 5 thousand to spend and I basically want to make the car as fast as possible, Im not really bothered about different bumpers or wheels as the car already has the full gt3 aero kit and gt3 wheels. The car already has a full designtek exhaust system including manifolds and cat bypass, its also fitted with a K&N cold air induction kit. Im basically looking for some advice on what to do next........I was planning on getting it remapped but was wondering if there was anything more drastic I could be doing first, increase the engine capacity or some kind of turbo conversion. I would appreciate your thoughts

Check out the supercharge options. +100bhp Should be within your budget. :thumb:

:welcome: Save some more, swap it for a Turbo, job done! :lol: To get a really significant increase in power you would need to think about a supercharger, but £5k wouldn't be enough. Once done, you would have something Turbo-quick, but would limit your market significantly when it comes to selling. Like I say, keep saving. Just my 2p's worth.

I would think very hard about significant power increase from a stock 3.4 engine... :?: Read a few of the threads on here and other places, about engine failures, first! Having said that, would £5,000 cover an Autofarm exchange engine? I believe you can get a 3.7 from a 3.4, which would give you another 30-40 bhp?

Try getting a couple of insurance quotes on a Turbo. You might be pleasantly surprised. There was a thread on Pistonheads a couple of weeks ago where some people actually got cheaper insurance on Turbos than Carreras! A supercharger kit costs in the region of £6500+VAT, and if you don't fit it yourself you have installation costs too. A remap, along with the parts you have, might give you 25bhp, but it sounds to me that you want a much more significant improvement.

Mate, that's nothing compared to the cost of some numpty pulling out in front of you and finding out that you are uninsured - because you didn't declare the modifications Insurance companies spend a fortune on investigating claims to see if they can wriggle out of some of them (and they very often succeed). One example of methods they use is checking Internet forums like this - so if you haven't declared what you've already done, I hope you haven't used your real name as your user name (or ever post a picture of your car showing the number plate or your face!) Not worth the risk IMO... And if you hit me and I find out you're not insured, I ain't gonna be very happy :wack: Other than that - Welcome! :thumb:

Simple, suspension, suspension, suspension. Put the money to a set of KW Variant 3s, GT3 Anti Roll bars, Uniball topmounts or GT3 topmounts, and then get someone like Chris at CentreGravity to install and set up properly. Maybe also get some hard rubber motor mounts. You'll have a small amount fo change from the 5k but not much, put that to some driver training from Sean Edwards... That will make you much faster. Then you'll be broke again but with a massive smile on your face... :thumb: Forget the supercharger, you won't get anything for 5k and it's money badly spent...

Thanks for the advice.....It makes perfect sense! suspension it is then, dont suppose anyone knows of someone in scotland that can set up the suspension properly, I know lots of garages that would be willing to fit it but none that would have the skill to set it up correctly. Also I posted a thread earlier about converting my C4 to rear wheel drive only, anyone ever done this?

Try emailing AndyC on here, he's from up there and would probably know the best places. He actually travels down to Chris to get his done so maybe get someone to install and Chris to do the Geo. It takes aprox 10 hours-ish so you could drive down and drive back??? Not sure about the C4 thing, I've heard of people doing it a Turbo to effectively get a GT2 :?:

As Stuart said, suspension, suspension, suspension and seats. I've done very little engine work simply because there's not the gain to be had there, but over the last two and a half years i've managed to take 4 seconds off my lap times around Knockhill and thats all down to suspension. I very much doubt that a supercharger would give me the same reduction in lap times, even with an extra 100bhp. My car's a road car, not a racer, and every thing i've done has made it better to drive on the roads and yes i do take the long haul to travel down to see Chris at centre gravity, once you've been you'll understand why I'm also in a c4, you don't need to change to rear wheel drive, trust me. Where abouts are you? Near Glasgow? I would have loved to come and see what a difference the suspension has made to your car but for now I am stuck working in the middle of a desert in Afghanistan and just been informed that I will be here until christmas so not possible im afraid :sad: unless you feel like a road trip??? :lol: What setup have you got on your C4? I would like to order it all so thats its all waiting for me when i get home. I was enquiring about changing my C4 to 2 wheel drive as I moved from an M3 to my 911 and loved the constant sideways fun in the M3. Perhaps I just need a bit more time behind the wheel of the porsche, because of my job ive only driven it 5 times since I bought it in May. :sad:

I would not spend 5k on after market goodies as it is 5k down the drain it will de value your car but about the same figure!!! Be happy you drive a 911 the way Porsche made it. If you want more speed, the best way is to get a better bhp model and 5k might just nearly do that.

But where's the fun in that Barrie. Personally i've never been able to leave any car i've owned alone, not saying that i'm able to improve on what Porsche do but sometimes you see what others have done and go, yeah, i like that, fancy that for mine, half the fun is getting the spanners out! I reckon at least 50% of us on here have changed/modified some aspect of our car, and probably made them better for it :thumb:
