He's going to use 3/4 inch pipe, which I'm assuming will be OK.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hoping some knowledgable guru can help me out here. I have a 2000 3.4 tip C2 and have just brought some 3.6 mufflers, the idea being to get them welded with the bypass mod and keep my originals standard. I've been reading loads about the bypasses on various sites, and now I'm wondering what bypass mod would be best for what I have. Do I go for the PSE I bypass mod and weld a pipe from the inlet to the outlet pipe (heard this is best for 3.4 boxes), or with the PES II bypass mod which opens up the 3rd outlet in the box, and weld a pipe from this new outlet to the outlet pipe (heard this is best for 3.5 boxes)? I'm tending to lean towards the PSE I mod. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks Lee

POST 2Original post

I did the same as you for my 3.4 - bought 3.6 silencers and welded in Mk1 PSE tubes. The sound was spot on.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks guys. PSE I it is. Exhausts dropped off with local welder this morning, with pics of what to do. He's going to use 3/4 inch pipe, which I'm assuming will be OK. Need to start getting quotes for removing the old mufflers and putting these on. Anyone recommend anyone in the Leicester/Derby/Nottingham area to do this?

POST 5Original post

Post some pics up.. :thumb: Also once fitted, if you have a db meter be nice to know what db's they put out.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If I can I will. Not sure how good the old blueberry will be at recording sound. The CAI kit went on at the weekend and that has made a slight difference to the sound over 4k revs. Hoping the exhausts will release the full beast!!!

POST 10Original post

Yes - I used stainless. There are a couple of old thread on here which have some photos and the material spec. If you do a search for "Oettle" and user "Richard H" you will find them.

POST 11Original post

Being a bit thick - PSE 1 mod is better than PSE 2 mod full stop, or just on 3.4 cars fitted with 3.6 silencers? I'm about to modify my forthcoming C4S hence the question.

POST 12Original post

The silencers on the 3.6's were 'tuned' for a better sound when Porsche did the facelift. That's why they are better than the 3.4 cans if you are going to start with a new pair of silencers. I know guys who have done the Mk1 mod to 3.6's and they have been very happy with the result.

POST 13Original post

I went down to Hayward and Scott for similar bypass on the 997 and posted about it here. £300 sorted!! http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=47310

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

FraserB I think after 85,000 miles and 9 years my rear mufflers might take a bit longer than an hour to swap over !!!!!! LOL

POST 15Original post

You'll need 2 53mm couplers for cat to muffler, replacement mounting bolts if you shear any a mig to tack them in A grinder and 2 replacement tip to box clamps these come with bolts I gall of pen oil and some goggles or a eye wash kit Don't look at the manifold bolts or the cat to muffler bolts! Enjoy! :thumb:
