Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello Im looking for a part number and diagram for the engine idle solenoid thats inside the rocker cover, theres a wire that comes out the rocker it has broke on passenger side on engine, need order a new one Thanks

POST 2Original post

:welcome: Car, model, year? Left or right hand bank? I guess you mean the variocam solenoid in the cam cover, as there isn't an idle control valve on the cylinder head.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

996, 1999 I not sure but its running lumpy on idle Had the car on a ramp and seen the wire broke coming out of rocker thanks

POST 4Original post

A variocam solenoid problem causes a lumpy idle. Diagram and part numbers shown below for 3.4 engines. They are £110.50+VAT each, and are different on each bank. 3.6's have different solenoids (two on each bank) as they have Variocam Plus.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

wow.... that was quick thanks Here is a picture

POST 6Original post

According to the workshop manual you are supposed to do this with the engine out, and have the body of the variocam valve upright. "Install the solenoid valve only if the VarioCam tensioning element is vertical. Correct seating of the compression spring (No. 4) is no longer ensured if the solenoid hydraulic valve is installed horizontally (installation position of engine)." However, I think that if you are careful it is OK to do it in place. Someone correct me if I'm wrong......

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Top man Richard, thanks for your help Is this the part number i need to order from porsche 996 605 902 00

POST 8Original post

That's the correct part number for cyls 4-6 (driver's side).

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

any idea what the part number for the passenger side 4-6 ? Thanks

POST 10Original post

Passenger side is cylinders 1-3, and you would need the 996.605.901.00.

POST 11Original post

Needed to have the solenoid on my left bank replaced 6 months ago, my indy did it with the engine in place. [Porsche wanted to remove the engine] TB

POST 12Original post

solenoid replacement Mines got the same problem, but you've got take off the cover around the solenoid to replace it. The 2 bolts on the outside will not release it, there are some more on the inside of the cover. Ninemeister have quoted 3-4 hrs + £110 for the parts.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Richard I just spoke to Porsche and they said the passenger side is 4-6 ? Im a bit confused any ideas mate thanks

POST 14Original post

Driver's side is 4-6: (Unless your car is LHD). Why does it not surprise me that they don't know?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

lol, just spoke to another lad at porsche and he said the same as you Thanks for your help Rich
