Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have searched every forum, and looked at most every site to find nothing about
987.2
's with a Power Steering leak. I can find many articles on the
987.1

Cayman S
as far as PS leaks as it was a popular issue, but nothing on the 2nd generation.
My leak is at the bend of where the high pressure and low pressure lines run from the bottom of (lets say) the engine, to the front of the vehicle. It is where the PS lines are exposed at their lowest point, for which I am guessing it must have been hit by something and caused it to sprain a leak.
I have done every bit of maintenance and repairs to my car so far. What I would like to find out is how hard it would be to fix this issue, and if anyone had any experience with it. Thank you very much.

The rack in my BS was replaced at 11,000 because it was leaking. They replaced the rack rather than try to repair. If you can get it on a lift I'd figure it to be a lot easier, but I havn't seen the pump on these cars yet.
I have put it on a lift, and have access to such, but unsure what all I'll have to replace. It is not the steering rack (correct me if I'm wrong though) but adjacent to the left rear wheel (drivers side). I'm guessing it will not be fun though it does not look that hard. I have no idea where the diagram or listing of the parts I would need is either. To be quite honest on this particular service/repair issue I don't know much of anything at all. (Lol)
If anyone had any information it would be beyond greatly appreciate. God bless y'all!
Yeah the racks completely on the other side of the car so, yeah not the same. Wish I could help. But I also hope to not have to do that.

I think you are referring to the P/S couplings. This is where the lines (high and low pressure) from the pump connect to the lines in the chassis. Believe it or not, this connection is simply a snap together connection.
Porsche
makes a wedge like tool to separate them, but the are simply pressed together. There is also a couple of O-rings involved. When an engine is removed or installed, this is the connection location used for P/S
I found the exact same leak on my
987.2
S while doing a routine check for leaks as I've had a few leaks over the past year 1) power steering leak where the hose meets the rack, and 2) oil leak from a cracked
AOS
.
I removed the panel under this section and verified it is leaking there by turning the steering wheel while the car was running. When the steering wheel got to one end of the lock, it sprayed out a good bit of Pentosin. The hose that is leaking is noted below with the yellow arrow. For reference I am at the rear of the car, about half way between the Driver side door and the rear drivers wheel.
What ended up being the fix here? Were you able to just tighten the couplings? I just had the power steering lines in the front of the car replaced about 2k miles ago, I'm wondering if they just didn't connect this hose back up as well as they should have. Hopefully I don't need new lines again.
Since it is a snap together or press together connection and yours is leaking, I would suggest installing new o-rings. If that doesn't work, you made need new lines (the ones going to the PS pump since the other ones were recently replaced.) 999 230 542 40 is the only o ring part number I can find in the power steering line section of the parts catalog. Hope this helps.
I took the picture to 2 local shops and they said it was a high pressure hose from the pump. They suggested a new hose as the coupling is fitted in manufacturing and they wouldn't be able to reliably get the fitting back together if we got a new o-ring. Looks like the damage will be about 450 (about 150 for parts and 2 hours of labor). Getting it fixed on Monday, couldn't be sooner, I hate being without my

Is that with OE part? If so, that's not bad.
My wife's Highlander HP hose went out last month at 112,000 miles. It was $650 to have it replaced at the dealer. Hose was $300 (MSRP $490) and labor was ~350.
Eddie
Yes, it's OEM, and I tend not to go to dealers for service unless I'm under warranty. This is just for the power steering high pressure hose at the rear.. It goes from the pump, and connects to the front power steering hard line. When I replaced both the pressure and return hard lines earlier this year, it was about 800 total. I believe there are 4 lines/hoses in the
987.2
, and I'm only replacing 1 right now.
I've looked at what it would take to do a PS pump replacement and/or line swap on my .1 and it's a nightmare. The shop is correct that a lot of stuff has to come off the top of the engine to access the pump and lines. I'm totally capable of doing the work, but it's bad enough I might actually pay someone to do it when that day comes. If I were to do it on my own, I would just take the lines into a hose shop and have the flex bits replaced.
Getting the lines off the rack doesn't look too terrible, just access in the engine compartment is super tight.
Another option I just remembered is a mobile hydraulic line replacement company. They are the people who visit job sites to replace hoses on large machinery.
Thank you for taking time to look into this. Yes, from the invoice removal of intake plenum, A/c Compressor and
power steering pump
was involved. Pricey repair for sure.
