They couldn't get their heads round the customer service of permanently repairing an item only a few months previously repaired by them, or the business case of repairing it so that I would continue to pay them £4 a month for life (ok slight exageration, but still nice recurring revenue stream for no marginal cost)

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Correct a GPS based detector, but i do not want to shell out more than £100....thats why i was looking at the novus piccolo at £59....we have seen a massive increase in detector vans in our area, for instance my drive to work is about 18 miles, each morning i could encounter 4 vans on that route, and they change positions.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Cannonball Run Porsche with anti radar paint (unfortunately didn't survive the first five minutes and a ditch!)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am looking into buying a speed camera detector and was wondering what you guys have if any. When i had my Crossfire i used the Roadangel it was ok but could be a pain in the A*s...bleeping at remote shop doors. I have been looking at this device and not bad at the price and very small.

We are all mature sensible owners and do not speed.
We have all had karma training we live by the fact that that we are faster than anything else on the road and recieve our thills from these thoughts alone.
Please join us and clear your mind of the evil will to travel faster than the queen's highway rules permit

There is a few threads about this.
Are you after a GPS based camera detector
or
A parking sensor which apparently may cause a few issues with the laser devices the police use for catching speeding motorists. Perish the thought!
I have the Novus Rider model in my Golf which does the job just fine and the updates are free for life. In the 911, I have a Pogo Alert which does all the Novus stuff plus average speed calculations for when you are in an average speed zone and has a laser detector too. Subs are £50pa on the Pogo.

The Piccolo also looks very small so could be mounted in front of the rear view mirror..possibly

Save your money and don't speed! (You'll save even more in fuel as well :thumb: ) I've never used one and never been caught by any camera that they would have detected either.
Sorry to sound sanctimonious, but I have zero tolerance for people who
intend
to speed in 20/30/40 mph speed limit areas. I live in a 40 mph area and have lost count of how many times I have nearly lost the front end of my car pulling out of the blind junction from the road I live in and it is definitely not safe to walk through the village without a high-viz and eyes in the back of your head. I wish we could have a speed camera, but sadly, someone has to be killed before we qualify for one, apparently! :nooo:
Having said all that, if you are talking about mobile speed cameras in NSL zones, I will concede that you might want to protect yourself a bit.
Be aware that this will cause problems if you go to France or Belgium and they find the camera detector, as they are illegal.
If that the case then you don't want a GPS based detector then as this pulls information from a database relative to your GPS location, so if the cameras are mobile it isn't going to help you much, until the database identifies mobile locations.
If you get a detector (like the one that comes with the PogoAlert) then if it detects a laser and goes off, it's likely you've already been caught, so no help to you once again.
Your only option then becomes a Jammer and for £100 or less I'm not sure what you would go for.
If there are 4 mobile units on your route, I'd just take it steady to be honest because if you Jam a signal once and get away with it, then another, and another, eventually your going to come unstuck and be prosecuted for perverting the course of justice.
So, get out of bed earlier and leave work later.
I have used the Technology Driven Solutions TR20 for the past 3 cars and would buy again. It has locations of black spots, fixed, average and most mobile sites and has only missed 1 in the past 4 years. It displays the speed limit in current location and present speed, which is configured to flash/beep only when it is breached. The TR30 is current but the TR20 has more or less the same feature and you could find one on flea bay cheaper. I'm using the update software on an XP machine as I had problems under Vista, not sure if they have corrected this.
I used to have a laser/radar detector but this went off at traffic lights and a multitude of other sources. As said earlier, if the unit goes off for laser you more or less have been caught, I prefer to be pre-warned rather than told I have been.
No experience of laser jammers or garage door openers / parking sensors although heard good reports. They appear to walk the line of legality.
Resisting the urge to add opinion on where the cameras should be located, and why they really are there.
A GPS based solution serves my needs pretty well, it's only motorways I worry about. I use the PocketGPS.co.uk database with my Kenwood/Garmin sat nav. It includes reported mobile locations which serves as a useful prompt.
Not becoming reliant on any solution is the key, radar or laser detectors/jammers won't help for TruVelo cameras or police cars using Vascar.
Laser jammers/garage door openers seem a very risky option. I remember a well reported case of a guy in Doncaster convicted for perverting the course of justice using one, he avoided prison but got a hefty fine and a ban. I believe he was pulled after just one incident where the camera just kept getting an error. Not having a motorised garage door was also a bit of flaw in his plan
I was thinking more along the lines of the Cannonball Run Porsche with anti radar paint (unfortunately didn't survive the first five minutes and a ditch!)
seriously though, I quite like the idea of the Piccolo. Nice and unobtrusive AND lifetime updates.
I have a RA Compact at the moment, but after the unit forgot it's internal ID (for the second time, this time out of warranty) and hence doesn't convince server if has a valid subscription, I have fallen out with RA HQ at Silverstone. Might be something to do with the £75 plus P&P they wanted to fix a fault obviously in place at manufacture and not effectively cured during warranty the first time.
They couldn't get their heads round the customer service of permanently repairing an item only a few months previously repaired by them, or the business case of repairing it so that I would continue to pay them £4 a month for life (ok slight exageration, but still nice recurring revenue stream for no marginal cost)
Excellent feedback as always guys
I have a friend in the office thats got Road Angel sat nav...he cannot keep this up to date because he operates Vista on his PC and he's complained that many times to RA he's given up.
I was looking for a small all round detector....yeah i know we should not speed and to be honest i dont that much  but just gives me peace of mind that i can get an alert to these mobile cameras that are springing up all over the place, i do travel a lot on business and to parts of the country that are not that familiar.
I use the Snooper, which updates happily from Vista. No doubt after 22nd October, I'll be able to tell you if it works in the Windows 7 retail build too :dont know:
There's also a (less than) high tech mounting solution available:

In my other car I got fed up with lose change sloshing around the armrest cubby. 5 mins and a tube of SuperGlue later and NO MORE NOISE.
Brilliant, right up until I need change for parking etc.
*PS - this is not a true story. I mean who would SuperGlue stuff to their car?
