wonder if the problem is on the relay, in which case why not remove the diode on pin no 1 then the exhaust is in the permanent loud setting and doesnt go into quiet mode between 25 &45 mph

It is genuine PSE so that must mean its vacuum operated valves, so is there anything you would recommend WD/40?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a switchable sports exhaust on my C4S and the dashboard switch seems to have an intermittent fault. Does anybody know how to access these switches and replace them?

POST 2Original post

you can take off the 'horseshoe' that houses the switch fairly easily, ist held in by spring clips, pop a credit card underneath the hoop at the bottom corner and ease it out wonder if the problem is on the relay, in which case why not remove the diode on pin no 1 then the exhaust is in the permanent loud setting and doesnt go into quiet mode between 25 &45 mph

POST 3Original post

Try WD40 on the electric valves on the exhaust, if these are siezing the relay will trip out. Seems to fit in with being intermittent more so than the switch.

POST 4Original post

If it's a genuine PSE, the valves on the exhaust are actuated by vacuum. The vacuum lines (stainless braided to protect from the heat) then route to 12v solenoids, well away from the exhaust.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is genuine PSE so that must mean its vacuum operated valves, so is there anything you would recommend WD/40? If so where are they located? Cheers

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Is there any wiring drawings for this cct and or pics where the valves are on the exhaust?

POST 7Original post

This is the PSE silencer, shown with butterfly valve actuator at the top of the silencer.

POST 8Original post

Another view of the actuator - you can see the link rod between the vacuum actuator and the butterfly valve ball joint. I can't really see that WD40 is going to do any good on these components as the amount of heat will simply vapourize any WD40 the first time you drive the car away....
