Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Strange problem yesterday. Returned from a short trip to dinner. Put car back in garage, hooked up my battery maintainer and locked car as usual. Forgot my phone so when I tried to unlock the car, the key fob no longer worked. Battery in it is about a year old and battery in the car is also about a year old. Retrieved my second fob and it also didn't work. Opened the car with the key and tried the in car frunk and trunk releases and they didn't work either. Fuse? Started car without issue, and shut it off repeating my usual shut down procedure. Locked car with the now working key fob again. Since I was troubled, a few minutes later I tried unlocking the car again and key fob didn't work again. Unlocked car with key, started it right up and after a couple minutes shut it down again. Key fob started working again, but 15 minutes later it stopped again. Read about syncing fob and car by inserting key and turning it on and then pressing the lock/unlock button while key is in the on position. There was no indication I accomplished anything by doing so, ie. flashing lights. However both key fobs seemed to work again and continue to work this morning. Anyone with thoughts or similar experiences?

hey budman, all the symptoms you've described seem related to dropping voltage or cells not retaining voltage. do you have access to a voltmeter to check the battery?
