This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Replace with similar bit of metal (red), but twice as long - might need gluing in place, if you can't fashion the barb.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When taking the left hand side repeater out of my 996, the very rusty retaining spring clip snapped. Does anyone know if it is possible to buy a new retaining clip, rather than a whole new side repeater? The photo shows both side repeaters, the left hand side one with a snapped clip, the right hand side one with its rusty spring clip intact (for now!)

POST 2Original post

Cut a piece of metal or plastic same width as clip that you can then glue against both faces of spring where its broke.....or just buy a new indicator.

POST 3Original post

Hook out the bit of clip remaining in the indicator - probably held in with a barb of sorts. Replace with similar bit of metal (red), but twice as long - might need gluing in place, if you can't fashion the barb. Overlap the remaining clip with the new metal, then drill small hole through both - then rivet / self-tapper / bolt together (green).

POST 4Original post

Use something like JB Weld that should glue a strong enough join

POST 5Original post

Speaking from experience it's easier to just buy a new one. The clips always rust and snap on these eventually. I doubt HB weld will be any good as the spring will be so weak and thin that it won't latch in properly. It happened to me so I bought a cheap amber one to get the clip out of. The plastic is so old and brittle though it breaks when you try and prise the locking tab out. You'll find new old stock ones for about £80 a pair on eBay. Or used single ones for about £25. Don't buy copies they're clear rather than smoked and the reflector pattern looks naff. :thumb:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone for the advice and views. In the end I've bought a new one. What's left of the clip is so rusty it would be difficult to attach anything to it.
