Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you can find a willing helper, have them use a length of tube, one end to their ear, and move it around in the area to try to pinpoint the source.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a very annoying rattle coming from the rear of my 996 C2 coupe, in a hatchback it would be similar to a parcel shelf rattle, any ideas? I also have a number of rattles around the doors, anybody have experience of fixing rattles on a 996 i'd love to get them done whilst the world is on lockdown!

POST 2Original post

Could be a headlining rod come unclipped at the rear. I have taken a couple of doors apart recently which have had loose screws, I would remove the dooe card and membrane and check screws on the speaker amd anywhere else you see them. If you can find a willing helper, have them use a length of tube, one end to their ear, and move it around in the area to try to pinpoint the source. MC

POST 3Original post

My similar rattle was down to the rear wiper motor cover under the rear window. Some numpty hadn't fitted it back correctly previously and just wedged it back in with the clips still attached to the lugs on the cover and not to the mounting brackets under the rear window and it had slowly some further adrift with an annoying parcel shelf like rattle. Worth a check to see if you have the same issue

POST 4Original post

Do you have a sunroof? There's a cross bar behind the sunroof with a rubber sealing strip that can become detached and rattle over bumps. To fix it you need to at least partially remove th me headlining (from the rear). If I remember, if it is this, it rattles differently (or not at all) with the roof open.
