Not sure why. The stereo in the 2008 Cayman S, a Bose system, sounded much different than the Bose in the 2009 Carrera. The difference is amazing. Both have the sub in the same place. I have the 911 Bose set to "linear" and I never used than in the 987. I would suggest that anyone complaining of the bass with Bose should set the tone control to linear and THEN make bass and treble adjustments. The manual says that linear setting defeats the Bose bass enhancement circuity. It does not affect the bass and treble controls. It is an incredible difference.
