My 991 S was well optioned off the lot, however did not have the sport exhaust option.
Porsche
Sport Exhaust, is now available for this car at about $2500.00 + fitting.
Question is, whats the better option, the
PSE
or an aftermarket IPE/FVD/ etc etc. The after markets are considerably more expensive but offer apparent +25HP gains, the
PSE
changes the sound but offers no published gains?
The other issue was what the
PSE
button does? The sport button on the S opens the valves on the STD exhaust to change sound, as well as mapping. What is it then that the
PSE
button does on a
Carrera
S, if the valves are operated by the Sport button ?
Ideas or answers appreciated.
For me I'd stay with the factory sport exhaust, and yes you can now get it for about $2500 and either spend more money to fit it, or do it yourself. (it's not too hard)
IMO there is no way ANY type of cat back exhaust (
PSE
or aftermarket) is going to bring you 25HP, no matter what anyone says, just ain't going to happen. Now headers and new cats, it would be possible, but that's a lot more $$$
On a 991 the
PSE
button can be operated independently at any time, but will automatically be triggered when sport + mode is selected (if
Sport Chrono
is optioned).
Not sure, but I don't think the normal "Sport" button does anything with
PSE
or the standard exhaust. It does a few other things, but nothing to the exhaust. If you have
PSE
though, you can then turn it on by its own button.
To my knowledge there are only two settings for a
PSE
equipped car,....on/off.
I think some bad press imformation got around about some "exhaust valves open" with Sport mode engaged.
Take a look at this video around :04,.....Sport+ button is pressed,
PASM
goes into sport mode and
PSE
(second button on right side of console) turns on. For just the sport button, throttle response is increased a bit and
PDK
shifts are quicker, but suspension and
PSE
stay the same.

Thanks for the feedback, take a look at this :-

I have the same setup, sport chrono, PASM, no sport exhaust and those valves (on US/Canada Cars) definitely actuate on the SPORT button.
Hence, whats the PSE button do on the same car?
If I'm understanding your question correctly, the
PSE
button simply allows you to toggle the
PSE
on/off independent from sport mode. i.e. if you want to be in sport mode but have a quiet exhaust, you hit the sport button (ON) and then the
PSE
button (OFF). Or if you just want to hear the exhaust without driving in sport mode (
PSE
button to ON, leave sport button alone).
So..
on the 991 S (standard exhaust)Sport button opens valves and remaps to aggressive.
Gives a more aggressive sound too..
With
PSE
installed, standard mode the valves are closed.. But still this exhaust has a more aggressive sound then the std exhaust.
PSE
button opens
PSE
valves and gives the LOUD exhaust sound.
Sport button does the same thing? Activates the valves and remaps, or is only in the sport + mode that happens ?
in which case the sport button now with the
PSE
only remaps and does not change the valve position. That only occurs on sport + and or
PSE
button...
I think ?
I think that is it! For the
PSE
the sound is a bit louder to begin with even with valves close so it kinda bypasses the need for any more volume with just sport mode activated, but for Sport+ it opens to the max for both sound and exhaust flow. Another pix showing the factory
PSE
,....note the location of the valves is now right in the middle where a type of X-pipe is brought into play. Notice also that there are two small center mufflers now compared to one large for a non-
PSE
equipped version.
SHeesh! PhD in exhaust !!!
