I was thinking when replacing turbo to use the k24 and mod from there?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've been looking for a 996 Turbo for sometime but my problem is I already have quite a few classics and to make space I'd have to sell one to get the Porsche. But mentally convincing myself to do this has been hard and out of all the cars I think the E36 M3 Evo might have to go. I know logic dictates I'd be selling a BMW for a Porsche and its a no brainer. But I do think the S50 motor is sublime and on full chat sounds incredible especially mine with some nice mods to help it sing. By comparison the 996 turbo doesn't sound as great but performance wise adds some smiles. I'm sure you've all been in similar positions. The M3 was supposed to be in the collection for life having owned it 5 years already but the want for my first Porsche is too much. What are your thoughts? Anyone know of any manual cars for sale? Needs to be black and a bonus if it has an aerokit

POST 2Original post

Black, manual and aerokit is a rare combination and would probably command a hefty premium if you were to find one. What's your budget? It hasn't got an aerokit but there's a nice low mileage manual, black car on AT at the moment . It's a private sale advertised at £43k. Happy Hunting. :thumb:

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure on budget as they seem so varied.

POST 4Original post

Have you been in a turbo yet. For me the 996 is a little more granular than the 997. I prefer the 996 for this reason. What other classics do you have. Might be worth having a think about which ones should go instead of the BMW ? Mine was a black on black, manual, Aero kit and a x50 many moons ago!! GOODLUCK

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've viewed one but couldn't drive as the weather was pretty bad. I've got an e28 M5 couldn't let that go too special a car An e34 m5 last of the hand built m cars A hartge h26 again pretty rare so couldn't let it go either So by default has to be the m3. Does the above logic make sense? How much did you sell it for back then? What's crazy is that spec car today is similar money to a 996 gt3.

POST 6Original post

Good luck in your hunt for a Porsche... pics of your other lovely motors please!

POST 7Original post

Hi Azmontana Gosh, nice set of BMWs..... your logic does kind of make sense ! I still have my car but the urge to modify was to great so its not too standard any longer, re mechanicals, body, interior etc I do feel the 996 turbo prices have softened a lot over the last 12-18 months. For me i would be looking at a usable car,,,so not the 2 owner, 20k miles high cost option, but buy on condition, there are some lovley cars out there for £35+ k. The GT3 and turbo cars are very different, for me the turbo both suits what i want and represents more value for money

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers chaps. Once I figure out how to post pics I'll get some up. Please let me know if any cars which might be for sale. I agree I don't want to pay for a low mileage car but something well taken care of and had common faults sorted. 30-35k sounds like a healthy budget?

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What's mods have you done? What's it running? I was thinking when replacing turbo to use the k24 and mod from there?

POST 10Original post

HI See thread, but all a little old now http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=117715&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=120 Basically a fully built 3.8 motor with custom turbos, intake, pistons, protomotive intercoolers, fenderwells, stage 3 fuel system, meth injection, clutch, flywheel, lsd, idp, custom maps etc, Bill Raider custom gearbox, some secret internals - all good for 1200bhp and more on race day...plus 2wd yes i love it K24 turbos will be a little laggy but will come on strong, my car was a x50 originally and although i liked it, i wanted quicker spool and more powerrrrrrrrr!!!!. The torque is scarey

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wow incredible!!! Thats nuts!!

POST 12Original post

Just for balance's sake: you should really try a 996 Turbo before selling something. I had one for 3 years and it is a very impressive car......but not a hugely fun one, strangely. The "problem" is that it's pretty much impossible to find any sorts of limits; it's enormous speed, grip and balance make it well......frustratingly too capable? Also, the sound is not great. If you're a power nut, I can see the attraction (1200 BHP.... ), but if you're into tactility, adjustability, etc, not so much. I much preferred my C2. It might be your thing, I hope it is, but thought you should at least get some balance :thumb:

POST 13Original post

I don't know BMW's much, but I'd be inclined to keep all those cars as you are clearly passionate about them. Perhaps consider putting one car into secure storage - at a cost of course - and watch the market. If it softens and when the Turbo has grown on you, then you might consider selling one of the BMWs. You mention that the e34 is last of the hand built M cars. the h26 is pretty rare and the e28 is too special. To put a tinge of reality, the 996 Turbo ain't a rare car. Too many were made worldwide. There is no "last of...." or "first of" except perhaps "the first of the water-cooled turbo cars" which is hardly a marketable claim-to-fame. I love mine, but I have an Italian V8 also that I love for different reasons. The pair of them are keepers for the foreseeable future.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I hear you. But this is a 911 turbo always wanted one. Finally going to do something about it. 😁
