Check also that there is no undue heat coming from the wheels/discs after a run which might indicate a calliper binding.

All the discs had done very light surface rust on them before I took the car out and after the run the fronts are clean but the rears are still have a bit on parts and the disc surface isn't perfectly flat - do I need to get these skimmed?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello All, just woke my 996 C2 3.6 up from its slumber and took her out for a 30 mile run to shake off the cobwebs. Can is running beautifully but there is a bit of a light rubbing noise coming from the rear brakes that hasn't disappeared after the run. Can was last moved about six weeks ago and was garaged with the handbrake off all that time. All the discs had done very light surface rust on them before I took the car out and after the run the fronts are clean but the rears are still have a bit on parts and the disc surface isn't perfectly flat - do I need to get these skimmed? The handbrake seems to work fine btw. Any advice appreciated.

POST 2Original post

It could well be some light corrosion on the inside surface of the rear discs. It should go with time... may be try a series of very hard stops and see if that improves things. Check also that there is no undue heat coming from the wheels/discs after a run which might indicate a calliper binding.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Robert. It was indeed a bit of light corrosion on the rear discs that was causing the noise. A few hundred miles and it's gone. However it has been replaced by a new problem, a leaky AC system. I'll post a new thread!
