Honestly, I'd just pop those two covers on and hand tighten those 10mm bolts, as it takes just moments.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have removed both engine covers on my 05 S, and now need to get the car to a shop. I'd prefer not to replace the covers. Are there any risks in driving the car like this? I certainly won't have a long scarf around my neck... Thanks.

POST 2Original post

Try it with just the interior panel replaced. You don't want something from the cabin to bounce into a spinning serpentine belt.

POST 3Original post

Yes. That would be my main concern. I guess I can just secure it with a couple of the fasteners for safety. Thanks.

POST 4Original post

Honestly, I'd just pop those two covers on and hand tighten those 10mm bolts, as it takes just moments. I'd play it safe as it's so easy to do. (In fact, I keep a 10mm in my car just for this very purpose.)

POST 5Original post

Oh my bad you're doing this as a temporary situation, just clear the cabin and run it over there. Extra credit if you leave the radio off, great opportunity to hear noises / rattles that would be otherwise muffled.

POST 6Original post

I never use the radio. I'd rather listen to what the car is telling me. I like this version of the Boxster - more analogue than later versions. Cheers.

POST 7Original post

I once drove with the inside cover off while trying to find the source of a belt-driven noise. While driving at normal RPMs it sounds awful and the heat is tremendous. Nothing I'd do for pleasure.
