But I also installed a light switch because I didn't want to wait for, nor trust the light to go out by itself.

No need to unplug, although I did not discover this until after I installed an on/off switch for the trunk light.

We used the cigarette lighter hookup for two weeks when we were gone during Christmas and it seemed to work fine.

Suggestion
I've found as others have pointed out that it's convenient to just disconnect the lamp assembly.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I looked in my manual to see how to shut off the luggage compartment lights now that the
Battery Tender
power cord prevents complete closure of the hood and moving switch A to position 2 does not shut off the luggage compartment light. Any tips as to what I might have missed?
I believe the light will go out on it's own after a certain amount of time, at least 10 minutes or so. Hopefully someone else will chime in and verify. As far as the switch goes, I need to experiment with that myself!
If you run the wires under the rear edge of the hood, between the hinges, you may be able to close the hood completely without pinching the wires. The
battery
area isn't weathersealed, it's always wet after I wash the car. If this works, you might want to make sure the tender's clamps can't touch the hood, perhaps by laying the plastic cover piece over the
battery
, or something similar. I haven't done this personally, and I know I don't even have to say this, but do verify clearances before closing the lid.
Pete is correct, though I thought it was more on the order of 15-30 min. As I noted on the other website, there is a small lever in the latch mechanism to turn it off, but that's probably not necessary since it will go off by itself after a time.
Doesn't your trickle charger have a cig-socket
plug
-in adapter? Then you just need to crack a window, instead of leaving your frunk open.
If you aren't using a trickle charged, then the slight drain caused by the light won't matter. And, as said, it will go out eventually.
You can run the wires out the top/windshield side of the hood and close the hood completely. I have attached the eyelet connectors to my
battery
, put the
battery
cover back on and run the connector wire out the top of the hood. When I pull into my garage I have the maintainer positioned so I can just
plug
in the connector without opening my hood or removing the
battery
compartment cover. Easy and painless.
I'll just run the cord out the back of the hood now that I realize there is enough room. Much thanks! Winter is coming, now I know the
battery
will be ready to go come spring.
Thanks for this. We have the same car and I need to do this for the first time this weekend. I probably would of posted up the exact same thing in a few days lol.

I run my
Battery Tender
out the right side with the lid down. But I also installed a light switch because I didn't want to wait for, nor trust the light to go out by itself.
Sears has one for under $30 with a cigarette lighter hookup,
battery
clamps and
battery
eyelet hookups. I've used one of theirs for over 6 years without any problems whatsoever. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I have been using the
porsche
/c tek trikle charger for the last three winters, works fine, very simple just
plug
in to cig lighter, alot of dealers put them on sale this time of year, check
Suncoast
, I think I paid around 150
NiceRumble,
I know this is a late response, but I came across your post and wanted to lend a hand.
Here is a photo shot of how I connected the
Battery Tender
so that it would not interfere with the trunk lid. Basically, I ran the connector toward the windshield, versus the front of the car. Note how there is no interference.
Hope this helps!
Our Sears in Valdosta, GA had its
battery
maintainers on sale for under $20 just prior to Christmas. Like someone else mentioned, the package includes all three
battery
hookups. We used the cigarette lighter hookup for two weeks when we were gone during Christmas and it seemed to work fine.
Coming into this like an archeologist, but concerning the user's manual reference to the luggage compartment light.... that would be the rear storage area as opposed to the front trunk/ frunk. I've found as others have pointed out that it's convenient to just disconnect the lamp assembly.
i purchased the
battery tender
plus ( i was told that the jr was not enough to work properly with the
cayman
) from ebay ( $40...free shipping) after the local dealer informed me that the orginal
porsche
charger (not the deltek) was slowly cooking my
battery
and installed it as shown on the first page of this posting. seems to be working since the instructions stated that i would get a "flashing red light" if i did it incorrectly but i will keep everyone posted if i fry the
battery
, the car and the house!!!!
I don't see any reason the Jr. would not work. It is a .75A vs 1.25A for the plus model. The Jr instructions say large batteries will just take a little longer to charge.
Just got the new
CTEK
model (4003) and hardwired it to the
battery
using the connector with the eyelets. The cable runs to the top of the hood, so the hood closes all the way. When I unplug the connector, it sits nicely by the
battery
with the
cap
closed.
I'll post some pictures tomorrow.
I'm with you on the method of attachment but with the connector always open to water etc. have you found any corrosion taking place? I can't tell if the connector comes with a
cap
plug
or not.
For those of you who leave the wire connected to the
battery
, do you notice any vibration or rattling of this wire since it sits loose on the plastic cowl?
Since my car is a sunny day kind of toy for me, the only time the connector end sticking out of the cowl get wet is when I wash the car. So far, after 2 years, I see no evidence of corrosion and there is no rattling against the cowl either. Seems to work as well as it could but I agree it would be nice to have a
cap
. I just don't know where you'd find one.
+1 on the Sears
battery tender
.....$19 on sale at Sears/Kmart/Meijer....I've used mine for years in many different cars (Corvette/
Boxster
/Pilot/
Cayman
) and have had no problems.
I use a
battery tender
from a mail order house called "Griots Garage" It plugs into the cig lighter or the
battery
posts. I use the cig lighter and crack the window. The service manager at the
Porsche
dealer told me to activate the security system as I let it charge and by doing this, he said the on-board computers would go to sleep as it charged. I'm very pleased with this
battery tender
as it also does a pulsating action on the
battery
to keep the plates clean.
Just received my Ctek and the eyelet cable now comes with a capped connector end. Nice touch. Have yet to hook it up. The battery was so low I couldn't open the hood. Glad I bought the cig. adaptor. It's been charging for 24 hours and not yet done.
Perhaps someone has answered this already, but will connecting the
battery
maintainer to the cigarette socket provide sufficient power to open the front hood if the
battery
is dead?
