As long as you've got a fairly steady hand with a drill then using the repair jig to drill out the old bolts is pretty straightforward, then using the taps and a pick to clean out and rethread

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a brief report...... So really just to echo 'jond58's' exploits, I knew the likely outcome but as I already had penetrating oil, a mini induction heater and no time constraints I thought I'd take my time on the first manifold...... all six bolts sheared off! So knowing that I had to drill out all six bolts on the first manifold I just tried a little heat on the second manifold....... five bolts sheared, I think I just got lucky with one bolt As long as you've got a fairly steady hand with a drill then using the repair jig to drill out the old bolts is pretty straightforward, then using the taps and a pick to clean out and rethread I did mine with the car on axle stands in my garage Although it's commonly regarded as a 'don't do it unless you have to' job on the 996, with the drilling jig it really is pretty straightforward My jigs now in the for sale section :thumb:

POST 2Original post

Axle stands in the garage?!? Man you're a gluten for punishment!!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh it wasn't so bad, just got to find somewhere special to keep this momento :floor:

POST 4Original post

Just out of interest - where did you get the stromski jig copy from? Looks like a nice bit of kit.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I stumbled across it on Ebay about two years ago, if I remember correctly the guy I bought it from had an extra one or two made to recoup the cost of having one made for himself.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was taking my time, especially with the taps, with the exhaust removed, coolant drained and water pipes removed, probably 30-45 mins per bolt
