Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hey gang, Upon physically cleaning up my garage floor from my SPP thread , sure enough -- I found this broken and tiny half of a plastic gear on the floor. Pretty sure it fell out of the driver's door card. Per the inner diameter, it looks like there was a flat spot that goes on a metal spindle to keep it in place. Doesn't look like it cranked a lot of force, given how fragile it is. It looks VERY familiar (like in the center console ashtray mechanism), but that isn't it. Any guesses, have at it; I'm stumped. Will have to check when I go back into the door again. Cheers.

POST 2Original post

I’ve pulled the door cards off several times and I’ve never seen anything like that. Does everything work correctly? It looks like a gear that would drive a damper like in the ashtray, as you mentioned. Did you check the arm rest pocket lid, does that feel normal?

POST 4Original post

Maybe the drink cup gear. How small is the one in your pic? These are bout the size of a dime.

POST 5Original post

Exactly what flashed in my mind when I saw the photos. I know we have a thread here on replacing these that shows them.. and the distinctive center (flattened circle) certainly can be seen on the broken gear Foodbiker posted the picture of. Seth - do both your cupholders work and stay in and gently float out when you press on them?

POST 6Original post

Maybe someone (previous owner?) found the gear lying on the floor and put it into the door pocket for safekeeping. Then it fell out during the door card removal/re-installation.

POST 7Original post

Actually it looks like it came from the flip mechanism for the armrest. Worth a look next time your in there.

POST 8Original post

That definitely looks like a broken cupholder gear -- as that's the exact picture of what it looks like up close. A huge thanks to MSDCaymanS on that. I did take out the cupholder a while back to vinyl wrap it, so I bet it's something from that. Both cupholders swing out just fine and push back and lock back into place; the one closest to the driver seems to hustle out just slightly faster, but nothing crazy. Maybe it's that? Just found them on eBay; $23 for a pack of two. Doesn't look too difficult a repair at all (haven't even searched the old threads yet). Is that a speed governor for them expanding out? Also did a brief check of the armrests, ashtray, center console and no issue and didn't see anything that look liked that. and I didn't see anything that looked like that.

POST 9Original post

In case you never found it. It definitely looks like it came from the flip up armrest pocket. I just had my door panel off fixing the window regulator, and saw this.

POST 10Original post

Wow! looks like it to me as well, great slewthing!!
