I'm thinking that slow layers of black Oatey ABS cement (Home Depot, <$10) would fill the cracks just nicely.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi Everyone, I recently found Planet 9 and it's a great resource for the 987 series. This is my "I can't find this part, I'm about to give up" issue with my passenger side seat. I've got a 987 Boxster base, power seat backs but not power sliders. The PO must've stabbed the passenger seat fore/aft adjuster with heels for many years because the top surface of the plastic lever cover is very chewed up. They smartly covered the top with a piece of electrical tape. I've been unable to find this part on my own and I've only seen it on the used market attached to full seat assemblies. I found a seat schematic on dC Automotive Porsche Dismantler that looked like what I needed. I copied the part and inquired at a couple dealers and they told me this part isn't for my seat and they quoted me the entire seat bottom at atmospheric prices. My local dealer wasn't able to figure it out and wanted me to bring it in to service so a tech could look at it. I'm not doing that. I found this part for the cost of that techs time, but I think it's for the sport bucket seats. I don't care about the seat rails as long as the handle can swap to mine. Can anyone confirm if this part has the same adjuster handle as stock? Or does anyone know if the handle alone has its own part number? Here is a link to the part I think might work: Genuine Porsche Seat Adjuster for 2008-2013 Porsche | OEM Part# 997-521-430-01 | Harper Auto Parts

POST 2Original post

This is what I’m trying to rectify. Maybe the easier solution is to try some light sanding and dye it if sanding discolors it. I can’t figure out how to separate the plastic handle off of the bar. I just got a set of triple square sockets so I can remove the seat now, which will give me a better view of how this is all attached.

POST 3Original post

Looking at parts diagrams, it looks like that is only sold as a unit with the seat base, so yea, gonna be expensive. I would just sand it smooth so you can't feel it and forget about it. If you're worried about what it looks like, paint it with something like SEM Trim Black Ultra. You can get it on Amazon . It's made to go over plastic trim pieces and looks good. I've used it on some external trim pieces like the piece around the wiper blades and have been happy with it.

POST 4Original post

That is probably going to be my best bet. Thank you for the suggestion.

POST 5Original post

Hey @Reds89 - Wow, that does look gundged up. Per your "2-way" seat, I think your best bet is either (1) salvage a single seat, or (2) carefully and slowly sand it down and then polish it. Better yet, per #2, I'd try to fill in the cracks first and then sand it down to shape. Dollars to donuts, it's ABS plastic. I'm thinking that slow layers of black Oatey ABS cement (Home Depot, <$10) would fill the cracks just nicely. Looking at the damage, I doubt you'll need to dye it as it's probably ABS all the way through. But obviously do a small test first. I personally know well about parts where it's not quite a perfect repair, and that can bug me from time to time. Meanwhile, I bet this would be close enough for now. Whatever you do, just work on the seat out of the car. Make your life easy and you'll likely be able to a better job; it's in an awkward spot. Finally, as you're new here - be sure to introduce yourself in the New Members thread. We'd love to see your ride. Cheers and let us know how your repair/replacement works out.

I'd suggest you follow @foodbiker suggestion - then using the actual tool-handle PlastiDip - Plasti Dip Flat/Matte Black Multi-Purpose Rubber Coating 14.5 oz oz - Ace Hardware or Plasti Dip Flat/Matte Black Multi-Purpose Rubber Coating 22 oz oz - Ace Hardware A number of coats should provide a durable and attractive surface.
