I've replaced the original CDR-30 with an Android head unit - this came with a CANBUS decoder so all multifunction buttons work well on the current setup.

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked and answered a thousand times but I would really appreciate some help with my specific scenario. I currently have the PDK multifunction steering wheel with the button shifter: I've replaced the original CDR-30 with an Android head unit - this came with a CANBUS decoder so all multifunction buttons work well on the current setup. I'm looking to replace the wheel with a 991.2 style PDK multifunction wheel and had a few questions about going this route: 1) I'm aware there is a GPS adapter for older cars to use the new style MF controls. However all the content I can find is for people using this to adapt their non-MF cars to newer MF wheels (with original head units). Do I still need the GPS adapter to use the new-style MF buttons if my car is already wired for MF and also has a head unit replacement with CANBUS box in between? 2) Has anyone gotten the driving mode dials on the newer wheels to work with Sport Chrono on 9x7 or is this a complete no-go? 3) Will I require further parts to get heated steering to work on the 987.2? The original wheel is not heated but I have heated seats if that helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd reach out to the gent who is selling the GPS adapter -- as he'll likely be able to answer your questions on this. Odds are you'll get it to work, but it's a question of the which functionality will work. You'll need a replacement clockspring (do a search online here) that has heated functionality; it has nothing to do with heated seats; possibly more but I doubt it. Plus, you'll need someone with a PIWIS to recode your car. Finally, you'll need a steering wheel that supports heating (has the heated wires in it, plus the button to turn it on/off). Whatever you do, get the correct triple square XZN (NOT A Torx 55) to remove and retighten your steering wheel. Just buy the inexpensive set and buy it once. You may find it useful for all sorts of stuff on Euro cars. (I bought a set that clearly some cheapskate Porsche owner used once for this very purpose and then returned it. Jeez!)
