I'll report back on the car once a set of Michelin's are fitted in the adjusted sizes.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust sizes' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust sizes' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm sure a 10mm spacer is not going to totally change a cars personality though.

It will be very interesting to see how much difference changing the tyres will make!!

I`m running Michelin PS2 225/265 18`s on mine, the difference from the Bridgestones it came with is night and day, It was downright scary on those and you couldn`t stop the thing, the rear just skipped, squirmed and bounced under braking :drive:
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

That is what my car has become. When I bought it there were 19" rims with 265/30/19 budget rears. They looked terrible. Really stretched over the rim. I hated the way it looked so bought some much nicer looking 997 5 spokes. I had hoped the ride would be better. Hmmm. Wrong.

Still love it though.
It's on 235/40/18 Continental front (rock hard rubber)
265/40/18 Maxxis rear. (Just plain nasty)
I've bought some Michelin Pilot Super sport 225/40/18 front and the same rears in 285/30/18. It will be very interesting to see how much difference changing the tyres will make!! On the 19's it drove straight and true, I just did not like the look. I'll report my findings once they are fitted. Oh and the 235 on the front at the moment look a bit wide for the rim hence the change to 225.
Those current front tyres are miles to wide compared to the rears. Changing to the 285 rear and 225 front will totally transform the car.
Also worth getting the car on a hunter hawkeye alignment machine and get it tracked up on all 4 properly. Kwikfit are as good as any of the general places.

Ok well I'll see how things go with the new tyres on. At the moment with the 235 fronts it just looks wrong. 265/40 on the rear is a lot of sidewall and the fronts look too big. It's pretty horrid. The 285 rear 225 front should be much improved. I think the contis are ancient and gone hard. Michelin always seem to be a good tyre, it doesn't seem to matter what vehicle they are on.
Unfortunately there is nothing on the island mate. I am fitting a set of B6 with H&R springs as well then will get the ferry to dingwall where they have proper gear. I'll speak to centre gravity and see if I can get some specs to set it to.
Ok that's great. The car had a full geo set up before I bought it and drove ok on the 19's that's how I know the bad handling is from the tyres. I can't remember the offset of the new 18's off the top of my head but rears totally fill the arches, fronts needed s 10mm spacer as they were a bit tucked in. That's the only other thing in the mix. I'm sure a 10mm spacer is not going to totally change a cars personality though.
One thing to check is your tyre pressures... Porsche recommended are far too high, and make the ride over hard and cause the car to feel skittish.
On 225/265's, I run 32/38, and it's much nicer.
I've done 120k miles in my car over the last 12 years, 110k of those on 'stock suspension' (in various condition states), the last 10k on what's in my sig.
Whatever was on it, on the road at least, the car feels significantly better on lower pressures... rides better at low speed, manages bumps at high speed better, has significantly less bump steer, grips better, has better steering feel and overall just feels more settled and planted.
Agreed. I tried softer tyre pressures to compensate for the hard ride on my standard Ohlins springs. It made it worse, I suspect that the softer tyres were providing the suspension and the springs (and hence dampers) were hardly working at all. Harder tyres put more loads into the springs and started the dampers working again!
Tyre pressures are fine. The tyres and tyre sizes are the issue I believe. Well and I think the hard front rubber (old) and cheap rear rubber ( budget tyres) are causing the general mis match and poor feeling. I'll report back on the car once a set of Michelin's are fitted in the adjusted sizes.
:agree:
With your new tyres it'll feel like a completely different car. You won't believe how much better it will be to drive. :thumb:
ps. If you then get a proper GEO done it'll take it to another level again.
My car felt much worse with spacers and Continentals than it had without spacers and on Michelin PS4 (same size tyres, same pressures).
Removing the spacers might make a big difference too.
