Suggestion

It may be time to check the shift cables where they attach to the transmission just to be sure nothing has shifted and that they're firmly attached.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, I'm in Sarasota FL where its been raining for about a week until today. I mean a lot of rain, I've been pumping about 1000 gallons out of my pool every day just so it wont overflow. Anyway today = no rain so I went to drive the Porsche but had no reverse, wouldn't get into position. I put my foot on clutch & moved through the gears while still 1-6 positions were normal feeling, but the stick wouldn't go into reverse slot. I put in first & pulled a few feet forward (which is all I had room for) didn't feel like first, felt like third. I pushed the car down the driveway & onto the street to go for a drive, the first gear slot was definitely third, got up to 40 mph @ just ofer 2,000 rpm, came to a complete stop & tried reverse again, slid right into position & went backwards, then first & that was now right also. I then drove around 5-10 minutes & came back home, the car is acting perfectly normal now. Does anyone have any idea what this may have been & is there anything I ought to check on? Also my BMW is flooded with 3 inches of water in the drivers side rear, not a great weekend for Pauls cars.
