Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You don't have to remove the alternator to replace a starter motor .. I used a 3/8 wobbly extension attached to a 3/8 straight extension to reach the lower starter nut .. you'll need a large bar to crack it off .. You can by hand put the bolt in the socket to refit .. there is enough room to get your hand there . Probably already mentioned but some pictures to show how . Pictures courtesy of Sp1ke .

POST 2Original post

Good pics, thanks. I replaced mine recently following Alex's thread http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=101392&highlight=starter+motor . You're absolutely right about wobble bars, essential tools for a 996 and you need a long extension for this job.
