Had this on Beetle where I wire brushed and painted them and Range Rover had a factory fitted shield for protection off road - advisory very year from first MOT!

I've changed all four on mine and the fitting into all the callipers were severely corroded.

I just changed the last 3 original exposed rigid pipe on mine and the rear near side was shocking - usually covered by underbody protection so hidden.

I haven't really seen something like this before and the tester suggested it needed to be properly cleaned back with a light wire brush, some protective coating and all would be good.

I had my car MOTd today and received an advisory on the near side front fixed brake pipe into the calliper. I haven't really seen something like this before and the tester suggested it needed to be properly cleaned back with a light wire brush, some protective coating and all would be good. You could do that, but they are cheap as chips and pretty easy to change. I'd change it. MC

I've changed all four on mine and the fitting into all the callipers were severely corroded. I had to use quality mole grips (irwin vicegrips) to get them out. Also, if they are bad then others are likely to be bad too. I just changed the last 3 original exposed rigid pipe on mine and the rear near side was shocking - usually covered by underbody protection so hidden.

If you put a protective coating on anything heavier than light dusting of aerosol paint, you will get an advisory along the lines of "brake lines not checked as covered with grease or other material". Wire brush, penetrating oil, decent brake spanner. The flexible pipe couplings can be a pain but that might mean a new bracket if rusty and a flexi pipe. Then another 20 years without advisories. MC
