I use a wheel cleaining brush but it still takes forever to get into all the nooks.

They came back with the whole back inside painted black......looked awesome and you never had to clean anything other than the face again.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just finished cleaning my Cayman for the first time. As expected the wheels are a nightmare to clean. Took me ages. Anyone got any tips? I use a wheel cleaining brush but it still takes forever to get into all the nooks.
There is something special about a brand new car, especially a Porsche. My Cayman now looks just like it did last week when I got it. Absolutely perfect.
My wife will be driving it for the first time tomorrow so I wanted it to be perfect.
People, the Cayman is a tremendous car, all those waiting will be very pleased when you get it.
Unless you clean the wheels very regularly it becomes difficult to get the muck off. You might try applying a thin coat of
vaseline
or such after each clean - that makes it easier to lift the dirt the next time.
Personally I can't be bothered... But the 18" standard Cayman wheel is much easier to clean anyway.
The problem for me has always been that the whole wheel is silver when you get the car......but doesn't stay that way. Its pretty easyfor me to get the face of the wheel clean, but you can neverget the back and insides of the wheels to look like new again unless you take them off the car.........I hate that. I once had a set of older Porsche wheels re-finished by Wheel Enhancement. They came back with the whole back inside painted black......looked awesome and you never had to clean anything other than the face again.
Anyway......I havefour wheel cleaning tools........a tire brush (for the
tires
), a large soft sponge (for the wheel face), a large soft toothbrush (for the hard to reach areas), and a 'dish mop'......a round ball of strings that looks like an old time miniature mop for dishes (for the inside of the wheels). Allfour of these help me to get my wheels as good as possible. You can also try some P21S (sp?) wheel cleaner.......it seems to help melt away some accumulated brake dust......but still isn't the perfect solution.

I have a few suggestions:
1. Periodically wax the wheels (inside & out) using a high durability wax. I've had good success with Wheel Wax, [/quote]an effective cleaner wax which, BTW, is excellent for removing those black rubber marks left on the car after track days.
2. Use a good wheel cleaner such as P21S gel, here's a link (cut & paste) to a wheel cleaing product review page from the detailing site,

3. Use a lower pressure (e.g., 1400 psi/100 bar) power washer. Karcher now makes inexpensive , high quality electric powered pressure washers for home use. I've used one for many years & have never experienced any ill effects to my cars. It makes short work of wheel cleaning & gets into every nook & cranny . Also great for wheel wells & clearing the vent holes in the brake rotors.
I've no affiliation w/any of the above, blah, blah, blah.
I agree that using asteam cleaner and power washer is the way to go. The alternative is a life-time supply of Q-Tips and clean wheels is the most appearance aspect of this car.
I am hoping that the Classics won't be too bad to keep clean, but I do plan investing in a small power washing unit. I don't want to clean just the face of the wheels. I want to be able to get all the soot inside off as well. I guess I should start shopping around.

I have a 3000 psi hot water/steam presser washer. Works great on everything, but you do need to use care as it could flat take the paint off something if you needed it to. I still get down and do my wheels by hand - and just use a lighter setting to loosen the dirt.
K-Man Sculpture,
I was hoping to be able to find something a little smaller and less powerful. I have seen some at Costco, maybe I will go check them out. I have been trying to clean out my garage and I hate get any new things that are going to take up needed space.
Russ
Yes, my washer is rather big and so I don't recomend it for space and other reasons, but sometimes you use what you have around. You might also check Sams Club and Lowes.
Thanks folks, I have coated the wheels with Zymol, hopefully that will help. I found a product called brake dust barrier, I am not sure whether to put some of that on as well.
On my
BMW
I used
Simple Green
and sometimes just
Windex
, both seemed to work just fine. I always wore those disposable gloves when working on my wheels. The brack dust is a mess to get off your hands without them.
