Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Had my 996 facelift since April and it has been great but as nights are getting longer I have noticed that when switching the lights on the interior lights to the dash dont switch on for about a minute or so. Is this a settings issue or a fault in wiring or relay? Is this an MOT fail? Any easy fixes? Thoughts appreciated Thanks

POST 2Original post

Does your rear number plate light come on immediately, or is there the same delay? If you wiggle the light switch, do the dash lights come on?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

off to wiggle....you thinking the switch.

POST 4Original post

Yes. The number plate light and the cluster lights are on the same circuit, so that's why I asked if there was a delay in them coming on too. If there is, then I think the switch is the problem. If there isn't, then I suspect it is the instrument cluster.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well having waggled...number plate light comes on but dash lights dont but have noticed the sidelight bulb has gone so will replace that then see. Interesting observation is if I leave the lights on with keys out then go back and restart then dash lights come on. So will replace bulb then if still no joy replace switch Hmmmm.......

POST 6Original post

If the number plate lights are coming on instantly but the dash lights have a delay, I don't think it will be the light switch.

POST 7Original post

I recently had the same problem ahead of my MOT. The rear number plate lights were out at the same time as the dash lights. Replaced the switch and all OK. Dash lights are not a fail, but number plate lights are. Edited to add, my chimes werent working either when you switch the engine off and lights left on and they are now.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My chimes dont work also....off to order a new switch Thanks for the assistance

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

MOT bo0ked for this morning at 09.00 - started fitting new switch at 08.15 and done by 08.30 - thanks to diagram on how to fit the switch posted by someone on here.....Now have a fresh MOT! just goes to show how invaluable this forum is Big thanks :thumb:

POST 10Original post

it's always good when you get the answer you need :thumb: as the old UK MOT can sometimes dish up some weird failures that can be a pain to fix
