Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last week I made the leap back to a 911 (996 C4 Trip) from a Boxter, also owned 2 911 3.2's and a 944 turbo. My problem with the 996 is I am getting a sort of cracking sound on the top of the dash area around the area of the red alarm light is this something to do with the 4 wheel drive.

POST 2Original post

I dont get that on mine? So I would say its not normal... does it happen all the time or just when going round corners etc?

POST 3Original post

Cracking or creaking? My cluster makes creaks randomly, the glove box every now and again, something in the back makes a noise whenever it feels like it... :dont know: Has a new windscreen been fitted recently?, that's a known cause of dash noises. If it's a creak and it doesn't do it all the time I'd just live with it... If it's a crack I'd investigate the windscreen seals... :thumb:

POST 4Original post

C2 996 FACELIFT 2002 I had a really annoying creaking rattle which I thought was coming from behind the dash area. Sort of sounded like something was loose and rattling. My indie identified it as the windscreen rubber drying out so lubricated it with a WERTH product and it just disappeared. Hope that helps. Martin

Thanks for all the advice. Michelin Pilots or P zero's ????

POST 7Original post

I've got this noise in my TT - bloody irritating and it has definitely had a new screen at some time as there is an 'MoT fail' advisory on it from a past service invoice. I do have Pirelli P-Zeros on the car as it happens, but am struggling to understand the connection? :dont know:

POST 9Original post

Have you tried having somebody press the red alarm cover while you are driving. I have a small rattle which is annoying, the red cover has two clips and one seems to be not holding properly and seems to be causing my rattle. I'm going to stick it down a little with some RTV or something so it's easy to get off again if need be but holds it enough to stop the rattle.

POST 10Original post

Be careful taping that - I believe it is actually a sunlight sensor for the climate control system, not an alarm component. Don't want to tape over that! Don't know about your noise, but the dried out screen seal sounds plausible to me as it didn't creak when I drove in the rain this morning
