Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

The salesman just told me that if place an order now, the delivery will be in Sep 06'. Fortunately, I have my Cayman S scheduled to be made in Feb and deliver in Apr.

POST 2Original post

Is that in the UK ? There was a piece in Autocar yesterday about how sales were poor and there were lots of opportunities to jump the queue. As I don't believe a word I read in any press publication your info would seem to confirm that journos never let the truth get in the way of a good story !!

POST 3Original post

Not UK but HK, may be it's due to small number of quota. I may give up if waiting time is 10 months, really too long for me. However, this is a good sign, it imply Cayman S will have a very good residual value. Very likely won't lose more than 20% in 2 years time. Great car andgood value for money.

POST 4Original post

Lambormini, Feel free to update your profile to include your country and a little country flag will show up and people will be able to see your home country in your profile in case they were wondering where you might be talking about such as in this thread. Thanks!

POST 5Original post

There is some truth in the Autocar story. I have just switched my order from a 997 C4S to the Cayman 3 weeks ago and was quoted March/April 06 delivery. It appeared that a few speculators cancelled their orders last minute; of course depends on which dealer in UKas well. However Autocar quoted at end of that story: Low Demand = Cayman Deals is utter rubbish cos deals usually mean discounts and you definitely have to pay list price for Cayman. On the contrary the renowned supercar dealer Tom Hartley ( who has a good insight on which cars are in demand and hence strong residuals ) has a brand new Cayman in stock £POA. Now that's a good sign.

POST 6Original post

I was told yesterday that my build date has been brought forward from Jan 06 to Dec 22nd. I don't know if that means production is ahead of schedule or if sales are slower than expected. I still think that sales won't really take off until Caymans start appearing on the streets. None of my friends have heard of it yet and that must be the case for a lot of none-enthusiasts who just buy cars because they like the look of them.

POST 7Original post

Yeah, in our world the Cayman is old news, but I have a friend who works at a car dealer and just bought anew G35- he hadn't even heard of it.

POST 8Original post

Several days this week, The Miami Herald has included full page adds featuring the Cayman S, placed by The Collection, a Porsch, Audi, and several high end exotics dealer. The add shows a Silver Cayman S at night with the City skyline and a palm tree in the background. Under the photo it says: Wild Child.
'Take a walk on the wild side. Introducing the all new 2006 Porsche Cayman S. The highly anticipated, highly desirable, Cayman S is the perfect combination of design and engineering that you've come to expect from Porsche. Power. Passion. Performance. Come experience it only at The Collection.' 'The Collection is unveiling the all-new Porsche Cayman S. This Saturday, December 10th from 12pm to 5pm.'
What struck me is that the add continues to be run in the Sport Section of the newspaper./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif

No 'chick car' label here, thenk you very much./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif I wrote this to emphasize what has been pointed out in this post. That the car is just now being introduced to the mass public, and once they are on the streets, the demand IMO will rise appreciably. BTW, I am not pushing The Collection, and the proof is that I drove three times the distance to buy mine from Champion Motors. Reasons not important here./fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/gossip.gif

POST 9Original post

Cayman S will be display in HK showroom on 10th Dec for the 1st time.

POST 10Original post

Cayman first physical sighting in Australia will be late Dec/ early January.

POST 11Original post

I went in to my dealer here in Palo Alto, CA this week to have some warranty work done on my 2002 996 turbo, and they said the Caymans are coming in earlier and faster then they thought. Five cars on their order-tracking white board that were slated for December build, were showing as already on the boat in transit. My Cayman was slated for early Feb, build, but they said it will probably be moved up into late Jan. Brad

POST 12Original post

Good news, beez, mine is alreadybuilt (DOB 11/16)and the guess is that it will be here (Walnut Creek CA) by launch in Jan. If it arrives before launch, I'm hoping they'll hand over the keys!

POST 13Original post

Is any one else out there noticing media advertising or announcements regarding the Cayman S in your area? I understand from my dealer that Porsche will be waiting until we are closer to the Jan. 14 date to do media stuff, but I was wondering if any other dealers are drawing attention to the car, similar to what The Collection is doing in Miami.

POST 14Original post

Princeton Porsche is having a'VIP' party on Jan. 12.My friend who has bought 4 911s and I will attend. He also helped will a price I could live with. ONCE the Cayman travels on route 1, 95, or the NJ turnpikesales can only spike. My fear is that Porsche will fill the demand quickly and then sales will fall as fast as they rose. So if Porsche is listening, keep volume down, interest high, prices tight, so us early adopters can feel that our mania is not short lived.

POST 15Original post

Circle Porsche in Long Beach has one front and center in their tiny showroom. In it’s front trunk is a black car cover that came with the car with instructions from Porsche to keep on the car until official introduction (Jan 1?). Fat chance.

POST 16Original post

My car was put on a boat November 30th and is due to land in San Diego December 18th. I am thinking about going to the port to photograph it coming off the boat. Ran in to a brand new Z06 owner in the parking lot at the grocery store. He has 100 miles on his Corvette. He gave me a tour. Red stitching on the leather interior was nice. Got to see the baffles close onthe quad exhaust pipes when he fired it up. He paid $10,000 over MSRP - some number in the $80's off the lot. Says he knows the president of the Power Dealers in Los Angeles and that he got his car [???] Anyway, the guy was in heaven. Really big rubber on this car. Nice ride. Asked where he was going to take it to see what it could do. He didn't seem to understand my question.

POST 17Original post

Do you know what will happen to it after it comes off the boat? Who's your dealer?

POST 18Original post

Chris, Same dealer as yours. Did you go to the Porsche Club Cayman Reception last night? I am hopingPorsche releases the car for shipment to the dealer so that I can go over and check it out. As of today, the dealer isn't sure what is going to happen. If Porsche is smart, they won't let these babies sit at the Port for three weeks. Dealer says they cannot let me have the car until 01/15/06. BTW, Even though the Z06 guy says he got the car slated for the Pres of Power, he still paid 10K over MSRP. Guess we should talk offline about dealing with the dealer?

POST 19Original post

Mpollard, I was at the receptionat Newport! Were you there?

POST 20Original post

Have either of you ask for clear side makers to be installed? Of no front license plate?

POST 21Original post

I asked my dealer about both, and they have my clear sidemarkers waited for me. As far as the plates he said they can leave them off but the small holes are drilled at the factory so they will be there regardless. Russ

POST 22Original post

Russk, There are no hole drilled at the factory anymore, there are 2 tiny dimples to mark where holes should be drilled but the bumper is NOT drilled at the factory, if your bumper is drilled then your dealer did it!

POST 23Original post

K-Man, Thanks! Good to know, I will make sure that they don't drill out the dimples. Aloha Russ

POST 24Original post

No holes RussK. I looked at the dimples when I finally got to see the car. You cannot even see them. In fact all my cars have dimples that look identical and you just do not know they are there. No front plates required in wonderful sunny NM. And why oh why can't we stay on topic! Edited by - Santa Fe on 12/10/2005 7:36:55 PM

POST 25Original post

Not really sure what this topic was about, unless it was how long you have to wait to get a Cayman if you place an order now, which will depend on where you live and what dealer you use. Carbon Cayman: Nope, forgot to drop by for the party, but I did phone in during the party and got my VIN number! It sounded like spirits were high. Asked if they had valet parking for all of the Porsche Club members and wasn't sure what the answer was. Because it was starting to precipitate I wasn't sorry to be high and dry at home. How about you?

POST 26Original post

mpollard, That is a good question? I am not sure how we got on my holes, but I do think we have drifted from the topic whatever it was? Russ
