The SC is not supposed to make the car any faster in 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, there is no indication that it does, but I've never seen a back to back test either of a car with and without to see if a difference could be measured repeatedly.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What I understand about the Sport Chrono package is it will has a higher rev limiter for upshift in 'D' mode and will not upshift in M' mode even it reach the redline. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Today I ask my salesman to add this option for me since I think this is quite useful on track. However, I am a bit worry if adding this option, will there be anyimpact to the delivery. Suppose my Cayman S is schedule to be made in Feb and arrive in Apr.
Sorry, I can't answer your questions specifically........but most people seem to think that Sport Chrono makes a big difference in the personality of a TIP car and is a necessity.......and I would probably agree. If you order is not locked (which it shouldn't be) there should be absolutely no delay in the production of your Cayman if you change it to include S/C.
Since the wife and I will be driving the Cayman the Tip was essential (my 986 was a Tip also). From everything I've read the Sport Chrono is essential with the Tip. If your dealer can add the Sport Chrono there is no way it will delay your production or delivery.
I'm getting this option also.
I think of it as a 'super power' button - that uses more gas - but gives a sporty response. More instant power and conducive to harder driving.
I can't think how else you could modify a acceleration curve like this and I'm sure any after-market devices that show up wouldn't be cheap.
So for me it's Cool - a must have!
On my way back from collecting my Cayman I thought I would try the SPORT button. But it wan't there.
Then I realised that the clock (which I have no interest in) wasn't there either. I tried to call my dealer but I didn't have the number to hand so Iwent home.
Then I checked the paperwork and discovered that I hadn't ordered it. I am convinced I had asked for it but it wasn't on the paperwork so I guess it didn't get transcribed.
Maybe next time...
I did read somewhere that the wiring and connectorfor the SPORT switch is already in place and all it needs is some minor re-programming but I suspect that was just wishful thinking.
I wonder if Porsche would be able to add it to a new car upon delivery. It might be worth calling the service department to find out if they have added Sports Chrono to cars they were not built with it from the factory.

Can someone tell me if the Sports Chrono Packagemake a difference 0 - 60 mph? And what does it do? On the Porsche site it says,
'Includes analog and digital chronometer, sport button in center console; also adds ability to adjust lighting, wipers, AC and door locking to suit personal preference'.
It doesn't say anything about a snappier throttle as stated by Pete Stout.
Thanks Russ
Russk,
As stated elswhere SC remaps the throttle, lowers the PSM threshold, and raises the rev limiter and we found out recently it also adjusts the steering to some degree.
I sure wish I would have known all that back then! It does sound like it is a must have if you are looking for maximun performance out of your cayman.
Do you see this as an item that could be added later? I am sure it will be more than $920 though.
Thanks Russ
It would be interesting to know how much straight line performance if any it would add? I still want to find out how to get back the missing HP's!!
Russ
Yeah, I don't think it is a must have option (except for me). Somebody said they are 50/50 on if it is worth it as a feature, some don't like the look of the dial - too cluttered, and some people have said just punch the gas peddle harder and the same response happens.
So I have no clue as to if it really makes the car faster - just a bit more responsive - that I could personally feel when I tested it. But have to I wonder about MotorWeek reporting a 4.8 sec. 0-60mph, when Porsche only claimes a 5.1 sec. - does the Sport Chrono truly make it faster than a base model?

I can tell you I love SC on the track as it make blipping the throttle and heel-toe much easier. I, for one, happen to like the look of the chrono on the dash, and it looks like Techart has a nice Carbon Fiber Leather they can cover it with, check out the interior pics in the Techart section I put up today in the Images area.
Like so many things that change as your perception of them changes, I now actually like the look of the chrono. When I first saw it and had no idea what it was Imy dealer to see if I could leave it off if it was a standard feature.
How isit that both Motorweek and Road & Track both reported their results 4.8sec 0-60 mph when Porsche says 5.1? I wil go with R&T and just assume Porsche is playing it down in order to be slower than the 911.
Russ
Porsche's official acceleration times have consistently been very conservative, presumably to cover it for car to car power variations and because the times are based on non-abusive starts. Every model I can recall has had faster magazine test times than those from Porsche. Of course, that's also true for most other makes.
The fact that the Cayman was designed[/quote] to slot in between the Boxster S & the 997 is no doubt for marketing reasons, but the published acceleration times just reflect the result of those decisions. Porsche's official times for the Boxster/997/etc. are similarly conservative.

Someone is just going tohave to take their car out on the strip and have it clocked, 0-60 and 1/4 mile, but we must not forget that breakin time! Which is really another thread.

Russ
Why? Porsche's have never been particularly good drag racers. Indeed, if you hope to be getting fast launches for your P car & low ETs, start a clutch/drive train fund now. Also, there will be significant variations in car to car power output, weight, tire grip, etc. In actuality, few will achieve, or be willing to achieve, the magazines' times. Remember, the road test editors don't own the cars they abuse ... er, test.

lizardS,
You sure make a good point, and I think for me it is just a matter of knowing it is THERE. Would I ever use it? Hard to say, maybe if I still lived in California. We have a strip here at Barbers Point, but no track that I am aware of at this time. I would love to track my car, but the strip might be all I will get.
