Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suspected cause
When I had a 1.9 205 GTI the manifold bolts used to shear off regularly, it was always a real pain to have the threads removed, re-tapped and they would always go again, poor engine mounts on the Pug (or more likely an engine that was too big for the tin can it was strapped into!).
Leading evidence: 'engine' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'engine' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run like a dream (thanks again richard!)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The car is back on the road and after a quick trip to RichardH to get the Tipronic codes cleared it is running like a dream (thanks again Richard!).

I am positive it is running much better than it did before.

All came out once I had warmed the engine up after being in there since 1992, new gaskets, studs and nuts and we're all set for track action for another year!

Can they use another screw extractor into the last one?

A lttle unlucky but I really do believe the quality of the exhaust bolts and nuts is very poor, mine would just crumble if touched, I have said before on this forum that the quality of materials used on Porsches is very poor, imho,Mike
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having finally got my new gasket from Design911 I booked my car in for it to be fitted - surely a quick job, you would imagine.
Imagine my surprise when I went to collect the car on being told the news was "very bad"....
Fair enough the manifold was very rusty and a sheared off bolt might be expected, but then the numpty has sheared off the easy-out bit while trying to get the bolt out and it is now stuck in the head!!!
I toyed with fitting the new gasket myself as and now i wished to god i had.
I am just very unlucky or does this happen to other people?

It does sound like a bit of a mare but i don't think it was really the monkeys fault. When I had a 1.9 205 GTI the manifold bolts used to shear off regularly, it was always a real pain to have the threads removed, re-tapped and they would always go again, poor engine mounts on the Pug (or more likely an engine that was too big for the tin can it was strapped into!).
What happens now? Can they use another screw extractor into the last one?
hmmm, reading into it online, perhaps it wasn't totally the numpty's fault, but he shouldn't have attempted it in the first place. Read here :

I guess this firm is in the US but sounds like they know what they are talking about. There must be firms that have the know how in the UK. Please let us know what happens as I just know I have crumbly nuts!
Having had a look at that brokentap.com website it sounds like what is going to happen to it today. The chap is sending off the head to have some electical-based magic happen to it.
At least we haven't had lovely weather while my convertible is off the road all week. Oh, we have
Will let you know how it pans out (expensively I feel)
The mechanic has done all he can to remove the stud
Extractors do break and that proves how pig tight the stud is
Erosion is the next port of call and was before the extractor snapped
Your stud in your head on your car
Expect to pay for the work of removal stud errosion and refitting the head
Porsche studs made of crap is not the mechanics fault
Thank the guy not slate him
Oh
And fit some decent grade studs!
Last night I saw my head is back and the electro dishcarge machining has worked a treat
Now just needs putting back together and bob's your proverbial. Should be back on the road next week.
It will be a bit like having it from new again after 5 weeks off visiting it in the shop.
Thought I should post a final summary on the thread I satrted about this...
The car is back on the road and after a quick trip to RichardH to get the Tipronic codes cleared it is running like a dream (thanks again Richard!).
I am positive it is running much better than it did before. Maybe this is because we took the opportunity to change everything we possibly could while the engine was out: coil packs, plugs, spark plug tubes, gaskets, RMS, IMS seal, filters, etc, etc... but it feels like a brand new car, genuinely quicker than before.
Maybe, just maybe, the whole saga was a blessing in a very heavy disguise?
Just need to save up again for the exhaust bypass!
Funny you should say that, I was reading this thread thinking how easily I had managed to remove the exhaust manifold (and studs) last week from my 205gti! All came out once I had warmed the engine up after being in there since 1992, new gaskets, studs and nuts and we're all set for track action for another year! :drive:
