Started her up the other day to go for a drive and for the first time, the CEL and engine symbol beeps and pops up. I have a
OBDII
tool and the code came up as P0300 which is basically random cylinder misfire. The idle and even a very gentle drive gives no hint of this in sound or power. Sounded like it always had.
What I have done in the past 3 months:
a) Replaced Beru coils and plugs and all was excellent after that. That was about 200 miles ago.
b) Installed a Cargraphic axle back
exhaust
.
When the installer was installing the
exhaust
he did notice a few shreds of cat convertor material in the pipe of the old
exhaust
. He said your (left) cat may be going.
I do not know the condition of the
O2 sensor
on either side.
Before calling our local
Porsche
shop wanted to know if any one else has experienced this and what was the solution.
As you may know because the last digit of the code is a "0" it means it can be random to more than one cylinder vs. if it was say a "2" which would mean cylinder #2. That iswhy I think is it something with emissions, and not coils or plugs.
I assume Larry isn’t around but just in case he sorted this or if any of y’all have thoughts, my car has thrown p0300, p0301, p0302, p0303, p0304, p0305, p0306 twice now. Both times I was cruising along about 60-70mph. CEL light cam on and assured me it was safe to continue driving. The first time was before installing a new
battery
. Yesterday was post
battery
install.

with just over 42k mi. I did change plugs and coils a few months back. Thoughts on
O2 sensor
? If so which one? Someone at AutoX yesterday suggested maybe gas
cap
[emoji2369].
Car runs and idles as smoothly as ever and performed amazingly at the AutoX.
I saved the scan details if anyone is good at deciphering them, I can share. I did clear the codes again [emoji1374][emoji1696]

One weird one I have read about a few times recently has been related to the engine belt. I recall seeing someone (maybe a few people) replace theirs with non-OEM belts, and this caused a weird issue for misfires (maybe related to crank position sensor deviation? IDK). They replaced the belt with an OEM and the problem went away. I expect if your original belt has stretch, the same thing could happen?
Just throwing out an idea... I certainly have no real evidence to support this, but I do recall seeing it on the threads... and it's probably a cheap test/fix?
Wow. That is odd (and certainly could be relevant to me with a recent belt change).

Cheers. How is the problem solved ?

Thanks very helpful.
I bought a
Cayman S
3.4i 217kw with running check engine and loss of power:
after start engine have blinking CheckEngine
I changed following parts:
coils + sparkplugs
all 4 x lambda
all liquids + filters
PCV Valve + oil separator changed ( was eating oil 0.5-1.0L/100km, after change ok )
still after start engine have blinking CheckEngine DTC Codes:
multiple cylinders misfiring
P0300 P0301 P0302 P0303 P0304 P0305 P0306
from exhaust petrol smell , bad running engine
cannot find the problem since long time
If the AOS was bad for a while - there is a chance the smoky exhaust from the bad AOS destroyed the catalytic converters by plugging them up. That can cause misfires due to the cylinders never fully getting the exhaust out. The smell is also a clue, as is obviously a bad running engine.
And as an aside, I also changed my drive belt with one from the dealer, got a shock when I asked how much....$18 !!!! 987 reaching classic status definitely has benefits!
Didn't help my random misfire events (pretty sure its my chain guides).
