Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Previously I drove a Tiptronic 996 C4 briefly and hated it (felt very slow), but I didn't attempt changing gear using the thumbswitches when in D, so that may have been the problem?
Leading evidence: 'Replace gear' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace gear' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So, if you're trying to set a quick time, it's best to leave it in D, press - once to get it into 1 and then keep your foot down.

Didn't think I would ever be saying this, but I have very quickly got to grips with Tiptronic and have decided I prefer it - certainly for road use anyway.

Wattie, do you find if you leave it in D, it's almost always in 5th :?: unless you're really flooring it, I find it shifts up far too early, forcing you to use M :dont know:

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Didn't think I would ever be saying this, but I have very quickly got to grips with Tiptronic and have decided I prefer it - certainly for road use anyway.
The knack is to just nudge it down a gear under braking and then it nicely on the boost, ready to accelerate out of the corner again.
The only time I've wished I had a manual so far was when trying to record a 0-60 time for 'My Pocket Dyno' on my iPhone
0-10mph was a bit painful, but after that
0-100 in 9.37 secs at the first attempt wasn't too bad I think :thumb:
Previously I drove a Tiptronic 996 C4 briefly and hated it (felt very slow), but I didn't attempt changing gear using the thumbswitches when in D, so that may have been the problem? Or maybe it needs the Turbo's torque to work effectively? :dont know:
..ah the joy of a new toy....splatter it all over the forum

Do the cops use radar or laser and plastic or metal handcuffs these days in N.Bucks
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it... and I mean more than just a whizz round the block!
However I will concede that it would be lunacy on a GT3  Or any track/competition car.

I drive mine in manual on the switches all the time. After a short while it becomes completely natural.
If you want to get off the line a bit quicker, hold your left foot on the brake and build up the revs a little. Release the brake while you hit the throttle. It takes a bit of practice to get it right, but could knock a few 10ths off the 0-60.
Always drive my C4S on the switches and I must say I love it! Wasn't sure whether to go manual or tip when I was looking for one, but, after driving my friends C2 tip I was hooked!
The other thing about the Tip is that it will change up and down at the limits even in M.
So, if you're trying to set a quick time, it's best to leave it in D, press - once to get it into 1 and then keep your foot down.
I must admit, I've always changed up manually close to the red line, as I haven't got the balls to trust it to change up close to the red line (when M appears on the Tip dash light).
The Tip is good, but I do have a few issues with it:
1. You cannot always tell which gear you're in (ie. in a manual, you can feel with your left hand), so I sometimes find myself having to look at the Tip dash lights briefly
2. Sometimes it takes a second to change down a gear, so I press it again, only to find it drops the engine twice and mashes the revs up to 7k
3. It's very easy to accidently click the + button when steering around corners
However, given the heavy traffic, it's preferable - but I do miss the manual at the weekend certainly.
Cheers.
I think it holds onto the gears longer in M than in D?
Hope so!
I've only had the car a few days and have done this a couple of times already... :thumb:
When in D, the Tip's lowest gear is "2". If you want "1", then you need to press "-" on the control, which also moves the mode to M.....after about 8 seconds it then goes back into D and "2".
You can fool the box by having D and 1st, through the following:
Box in D, press "-" and select 1st gear. The display now shows 1 and M. Then put gear into N, then back into D. You now have 1 and D.
The other approach is leave it in D and 2, and accelerate hard. Without pressing the kickdown button behind the throttle, the box shifts down to 1 and then through the gears. This shift costs a few 100s of a second.
