I just hope I will never have to replace another key for a long time.

I only have the internal "guts" left, I made use of the shell.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Originally, I ordered a special key **** for my P-car. The dealer told me that it does not come with crypted-transmitter. So I ordered an xtra OEM key **** just to have the transmitter. Once, I received both the special key **** and OEM ****, I realized that the special key **** does has the internal transmitter. Now I have xtra transmitter that I don't need.
My local P-dealer reps. do not know sh...t!!!
looks good though.... how much did it cost you....? i am looking for the exact same thing...... but does anyone know how i am able to get the one with the GT saying 911?
There is a "911" version of the same key available from Porsche. It's silver and black. You can find it for sale on Suncoast Porsche's website. Google for it. I believe it's $119.95.
Thanks,
Peter
Be aware! Suncoast Porsche sale the key **** housing. It does stated in discription. Call them and be sure. I bought mine at my local P-dealer. I paid $134 with crypted-transmitter built-in.
Are you sure? I got the whole thing including the guts when I purchased from Suncoast. Didn't use them, they're still sitting in the baggy the housing came in. It's not my understanding that Porsche sells just the shell separately.
I took my '99 C2 to the dealer today and -among other things- asked for another key. The service manager photocopied my registration and driver's license and said it would be $
150-175
; he wasn't sure.
We'll see what it is when they present the actual bill. I will post the result.
UPDATE
:
OK- I got the result: It's $186 plus a half hour's labor ($65) to
fix
the broken remote key I have. It's $333 plus a half hour's labor to order
another
one.
Net
:
$249 to repair the broken transmitter on my current key
$398 to get a second key
I declined both.
Without the xtra OEM key head, my total came out to be: $134 Carrera GT head/transmitter, $125 for blank, cutting, and recoding. Total: $259. I know the tech adv. so he didn't charge for the cutting and blank. Normally, it costs $45 xtra (blank/cutting).
that's just a rip...... Porsche in Newport told me that it would cost $325 for a new one...... does anyone know if a locksmith can do the job for cheaper of course....?
Different dealers will have different prices. I could have saved $50-75 by going to Rietzl Porsche south of Boston, but Herb Chambers Porsche is right here in town. So it's more expensive.
In the end, I re-evaluated and decided to spend the nearly-$400 for a second key. Beats being unable to use the car.
That's outrageous!!! I thought that I spent $259 is too much. Now I know I got it done for much less. Never thought replacing a key could cost so much. I just hope I will never have to replace another key for a long time.
Hi,
I hope there are members in this forum that have the expertise on SC. Currently, there are two different systs. on the market. Both claimed to be the best in reliability, driveability, etc..
I want to install SC in my car, but not sure which syst. is best overall. Can any SC expertises give me some head start. Thanks!!!
Porsche_Smile,
Pelican Parts, Suncoast Porsche and your local P-dealer. Yes, some retails sale it with/without transmitter but price is still the same. Weird!!!
Swap the internals...???
Doesn't look all that simple on first glance...
Edit...
Oops, sorry, spoke too soon.
Mine is a GT/997 key fob.
Didn't know there was a 911 "lookalike".
Off to Porsche parts counter, again.
Here's my favorite part of this whole key thing:
After
I ordered the $400 dollar replacement key in order to avoid locking myself out of my car, the seller found two more keys and sent them to me. In the end, I'll have four.
What a waste of money.
I guess I should take comfort in the remote feature I'll get for my $400.
