Get a diagnostic check done, find out which P030* code you have, if you get P0300 then there will be more then one coil down.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Its been a while since I've had issues with the car but today has been a bad day. Checked the weather this morning and thought its not a bad day to detail the car. So moved the car on the drive to where I wanted it and all was well (engine note same as always). Gave it a good wash, especially the wheels. Brake dust is always a thorn in my side. Dryed the car, gave it a once over with r222, buffed it up and got in to park it where it belongs. Started up the engine only to be shocked by the way she was running. MISFIRE! The engine was hunting all over the place rocking the car back and forth like some big block v8. Switched it off and started her up again. Same! Then the check engine light starts to flash, then it stayed on. At this point Im getting nervous. Switched it off and thought maybe my over enthusiastic wheel cleaning ment some water has got to the coil packs. Decided to leave her for a few hours to dry off before inspecting the coil pack connections. Several hours later I started her up. Urika!!!! She purrs like the pussy cat she is. No check engine light either. Take her for a run to make sure shes healthy, and she runs fine, however and here is the big however. When sitting stationary and I blip the throttle her note has changed! She sounds sportier, more throaty! Im now worried, worried that the catalytic converter may be damaged. I called my brother in law (mechanic, and a damn good one I must add) and he assures me that I probably didn't run the car long enough to have damaged a cat. Anyone had misfires and damaged a cat before. I have just realised whilst writing this that my test drive earlier was a spirited one and it has just dawned on me that the car might have adapted the fuel map to suit that driving style resulting in a throatier sportier exhaust note. What does everyone reckon on that?

POST 2Original post

Get a diagnostic check done, find out which P030* code you have, if you get P0300 then there will be more then one coil down. I am sure it will be a coil pack and confident once changed everything will be fine. The monoliths on these 996s are huge and it would take a fair bit to wreck one. :thumb:

POST 3Original post

I had a coolant leak whilst refilling the reservoir tank when it was replaced, coolant/water washed over the left bank area. This caused a miss fire, and coil pack was pretty corroded. A replaced unit and all was well. M :thumb:
