Replaced AOS on a 2005 Boxster yesterday. Hardest part was getting the bottom plastic hose clamp removed. I ended up taking off the mounting screws and pulling the AOS unit up. The dreaded right angle hose with the spring clip pulled right out and then I had access to the lower plastic vent line. hose. Replaced spring clip with a hose clamp. Unfortunely I found I have a torn Rt. side outer axel boot. Hopefully I won't have to dissemble a lots of things to get it out. Bernie

Nice and well-done, as I was contemplating getting it done sooner than later - I currently get a brief "white puff" once every 4-5 starts but who knows when I get cloud of smokes. By the way, do you think something like this can help? I saw someone recommending something like this and/or a long needlenose plier.

The 987.2 design in contrast to the 986 was a revelation in ease of replacement. a couple of O ring fitted pipes extend from the unit. Press fit, secure with fasteners.

I'm not sure guys, I never wrenched on a 987. 1 but by your description it sounds different as the unit I have would not profit from any clamps, it's a press fit and torx if I recall the fastener correctly.
