Anyway, feeling pleased with myself, I went for a spin to make sure the brakes were ok and to test the hood as it was sunny.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Over the last couple of weeks, and thanks to N_Jay and deilenberger, I can confirm that the alternator had gone west. MOT is due in a couple of weeks and as I was feeling flush, I invested in new discs and pads all round (advisory last year) at the same time. I'm going to need to remove the rear discs again as I discovered one of the parking brake linings had vanished so need to replace them now as well. Anyway, feeling pleased with myself, I went for a spin to make sure the brakes were ok and to test the hood as it was sunny. opened the driver's window and it made a horrible grinding sound and stuck halfway up/down. I have removed the door liner and find one of the cables has corroded and broken. All the other components look in good order and it looks an easy fix if only I could get hold of the right part. I could get one on eBay but from Germany which is going to take time. I can get a repair kit for the left door but am unable to get one for the right side. I can't see any obvious difference between each door apart from the wheel on the motor that takes and feeds the cable into the front and rear pulleys. Does anyone know if the wheel is the only difference between doors? Some of the kits from Germany seem to come with two wheels and advertise them as being for either door. It would be good to get it back on the road and MOT'd while it's still summer! Who knows, I could even get it shiny and post some photos.
