I’ll be looking to organise another (probably the same or a similar route) when the warmer weather returns so watch this space!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All
I'm thinking of organising a drive out starting and ending in Newbury (probably somewhere around Podium Place) early on a Sunday morning.
I have a route that takes roughly 90-100 minutes, around the best roads Berkshire has to offer (Wantage/Lambourn/Great Shefford). Numbers probably capped at 8 to keep things manageable to begin with.
If people are interested please leave a comment. I'll be in a 997S or 986S weather depending, but any cars welcome.
Details (including breakfast, coffee stops etc) can be firmed up if there's interest.
Cheers
Neil
Glad there's some interest!
I'm Pangbourne too, which is handy. Agreed, roads near Wantage are as good as it gets around here imho.
I've got a route plotted which I can share, although open to suggestions if I've missed any must-drive roads.
Any other takers?
Great stuff, so far Crudeoink, Lox, First Sea Lord and (car availability depending) TDT have expressed interest.
At the moment I'm thinking of aiming for some time in September (either 3rd or 24th) or October (1st or 8th).
Open to other suggestions however if anyone has a preferred date - will try and land on one that works for most people.

Sept 24th or October 1st work for me 👍
I would be interested, 996C4 or 986S, weather dependant. Worked around there 2014-18, often drove 'the back way' home...
Can probably only do the 8th Oct.
Hi everyone, this is great, looks like a convoy is taking shape!
So, here's the list:
1. Crudeoink - 987.2 - 24 Sept, 1 Oct
2. Lox - 987.2 Spyder - dates?
3. Firstsealord - Boxster GTS/Macan GTS/GT3 Touring - 3 Sept, 24 Sept, 1 Oct
4. TDT - 718 GT4 MR - dates?
5. Joe5y - 997.1 - dates?
6. Kendrik - 991.2 GT3 - dates?
7. Voodoo Blue - 718 Cayman(?) - 1 Oct, 8 Oct
8. Pcrawf - 997.1 - 1 Oct, 8 Oct
9. Allatsea - 996C4 or 986S - 8 Oct
10. Robm72 - 997.1 - dates?
11. Oldisgold - 997.1 C2S or 986S - 3 Sep, 24 Sep, 1 Oct, 8 Oct
Reserve list:
1. ....
I'm thinking 1 October looks like the most popular date so far, so targeting that. But if that's an issue for people, let me know and we can try to find a better date for everyone.
We can sort a meeting time nearer the date.
Starting location looks like Podium Place, Newbury. But we can perhaps stop briefly at Wantage if that's easiest for you Crudeoink (/anyone else) to meet us there?
I've got a route sorted which I'll email over. Please make sure you're able to receive emails on your PH profile (think you might have to switch this on, as it might default to off).
If you can no longer make it please either let me know or update the list.
Cheers!

I can meet the group in Newbury it's all good. Will give me a chance to get a coffee in the morning!

I can certainly do 1 October (and others if that doesn’t end up being the date).
Thanks for organising!
Hi, sorry didn't respond on dates.
1 October far better for me. Could possibly do 24 Sept with some skillful domestic negotiations, but I'd rather not go there!
Awesome, cheers all. List is currently looking like:
1. Crudeoink - 987.2 - 24 Sept, 1 Oct
2. Lox - 987.2 Spyder - 1 Oct, 8 Oct
3. Firstsealord - Boxster GTS/Macan GTS/GT3 Touring - 3 Sept, 24 Sept, 1 Oct
4. TDT - 718 GT4 MR - dates?
5. Joe5y - 997.1/Maserati GT-S MC - 3 Sept, 24th Sept, 1st Oct

9. Allatsea - 996C4 or 986S - 8 Oct
10. Robm72 - 997.1 - 24 Sep, 1 Oct, 8 Oct
11. I 8 a 4RE - 991.1 C2S - 1 Oct
12. Oldisgold - 997.1 C2S or 986S - 3 Sep, 24 Sep, 1 Oct, 8 Oct
I 8 a 4RE - you're on the main list as it looks like there's not much more interest and 12 is a nice round number!
So, unless any major objections, thinking 1 October, as it's the clear favourite.
TDT, hopefully you can make it, and Allatsea, likewise, let us know if things change.
Start time-wise, would be nice to have a clear run - is 7am too early for people? Open to suggestions if that's a bit brutal...
Cheers

Hi Adam, awesome, you're on the list for the 1 October drive! One or two aren't able to do 1 October, so added you to the main list. Cheers
1. Crudeoink - 987.2 S

Yep. Any of the dates should be ok for me.
Allatsea, sure thing - the cap can go out the window, the more the merrier and we need some 996/986 representation! I might have to drop Podium Place a line and see if we can blag some parking given the numbers but that's OK!
TDT - ta for confirming, good to have you and the GT4 MR on board!
So the list for 1 Oct is:
1. Crudeoink - 987.2 S
2. Lox - 987.2 Spyder

12. Adam GT4 - 718 GT4
13. Oldisgold - 997.1 C2S/986S
Will send out my thoughts for the route shortly - let me know if anyone has any other must-drive roads and I can try to weave them in.
Cheers!

Thanks. Looking forward to it.
7am - brutal - but love it!
Let’s go!
Hi All
Just emailed you all the route for the 1 Oct drive out. I'd planned on sending a map too but can't send attachments. Email me on my personal email if you want a copy of the map (it's not interactive, as I'm not tech-savvy enough, so probably can't be uploaded into your sat navs sadly!).
Food wise, happy to go with what people think is best. We could grab a bite/coffee at Podium Place afterward the drive or, if people would prefer, I can look into booking a full breakfast somewhere (perhaps Lambourn) mid-way through the drive and we could always add on another loop if people are feeling keen after refuelling...
Hopefully you're all still good for 1 October and, if so, let me know any preferences food-wise/any thoughts on one or two loops. Would be good to have an idea so we can keep Podium in the loop re timings - currently told them (for those who want to stay for a coffee) that we'll be arriving after the drive around 9:30/10am, but can change that if there's appetite for breakfast/a second loop.
Cheers!
Hi everyone
I'm not sure if the car park at Podium Place will be open at 7am, so how about we meet at 7am (to leave by 7:15am) at the Castle pub car park (Oxford Rd, Donnington, Newbury RG14 3AA)?
Based on responses so far, it's looking like a single loop and then onto Podium Place for a coffee for those that want to stay for a natter.
I'll drop you all an email too - might go to your junk box, so worth keeping an eye on that.
Look forward to seeing those who can make it on the 1st!
Cheers
Hi MrGRT
Sorry I missed your email. With Ainsley, we’re currently at 15 (one driver dropped out but I’ve got two mates who will also be attending), which is the limit I had in my mind before it starts to get unwieldy (driving and parking wise).
If anyone else drops out between now and then, you’ll be first reserve for the spot.
Will keep you posted!
Cheers

...and on that note I now have to go and sort something out for my mother that Sunday so afraid that the drive is off the menu for me. Have a good one everyone. Thanks Oldisgold for the idea and for organising
Hi All
Just checking who's definitely on for next Sunday.
I know you've all said you can do 1 October but I appreciate plans change, so just wanted to confirm numbers. It will also help with securing parking at Podium Place.
So far, confirmed are:
Crudeoink
Lox
Kendrik
AllatSea (although not for Podium Place)
Ainsley B
MrGRT
OldisGold (plus mate)
I know FirstSeaLord, VoodooBlue and Robm72 now can't make it.
TDT, Joe5y, Pcrawf, I 8 a 4RE, Adam GT4, if you guys are able to confirm whether you're still looking good for next Sun that would awesome.
Also, if the weather looks certain to be rubbish on the morning, and if most people agree, I'm happy to postpone until we're guaranteed some sun.
Cheers
Neil
I would be keen to postpone if the weather is looking properly dreadful! But if it's a bit damp / drizzly would still be up for it. Thanks again for organising, fingers crossed we get some good weather !
Yep, looking like we might have lucked out weather wise, hopefully it stays on side!
Look forward to seeing those that can still make it bright and early Sunday morning! 😁
Apologies it’s been an interesting day…:Won’t be able to make it on the drive now but hoping to be at Podium!
Glad the weather is still dry for you all
That was brilliant! Thanks again Neil for organising and setting an appropriately 'challenging' pace! Great to meet you all and look forward to doing it again. With some new tyres...and pants

Hi Adam
No worries at all and thanks for letting us know (especially given the time you were still up!) - hopefully see you on the next one.
Think you're only down the road from me, so if you ever fancy a drive out, just give me a shout.
Cheers

Update: Won't be able to make it for the 1st loop now - but may try to come down to PP for around 1000ish for a coffee and/or whatever else.
Cheers
No worries - think we might have just missed you at Podium if you made it over (got through the route quicker than I thought). Hopefully catch you on the next one. Cheers
Hi chaps
Thanks for making it today, especially given the unsociable start time and iffy weather. Big thanks too to those of you who had some distance to travel to get to the start point.
Great to meet you all, and a good run despite the conditions, with some pretty impressive skills on display! Was great to catch up at Podium afterwards too and to put faces to names.
Would love to organise another when the weather picks up next year, so watch this space. Will drop you all a message closer to the time in case you're interested.
Also, for those of you nearby, I'll drop you a message with my mobile - feel free to give me a shout if you ever fancy an impromptu run out.
Cheers
Neil
Yeah, that was a good way to finish off the weekend. Great loop, I need to go back and check it out when its a little less moist
Hope to catch up with you all on the next one.
Cheers.
Sounds like you guys had fun.
Commenting on this to stay 'in the loop' for anything you may do next year, I'm in South Bucks so not a million miles away.
Apologies, specifically to OldisGold.
I had some “life” happen and still in the aftermath.
Sounds like fun was had (frustratingly I had been telling my wife about it every day of the week!).
The route looked brilliant when I had a peak on Google Maps.
Up for the next one and apologies for not communicating

Hey I8a4RE
No worries at all!
Hope the life intervention wasn’t too dramatic and that all’s well.
I’ll be looking to organise another (probably the same or a similar route) when the warmer weather returns so watch this space!
Cheers

Sounds good! Will probably put some feelers out around April-ish
