Reported cause
because the problem is the little release cable that is sticking.
Leading evidence: 'little release cable' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'little release cable' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Lubricate oil' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Yep; given that there's an emergency fuel door pull ring & cable in the passenger door jamb, I don't understand why the same kind of idea wasn't used for the emer.

I used a small pair of Vice Grips with teeth on the jaws to grab my cable.

I've used lubricating oil on the mechanism to no avail.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

While I had the front end of my car torn apart today to install my center radiator I spent some time studying the emergency frunk release that goes to the left side wheel well. I thought I'd see if I could extend it somehow to a more convenient location.
Franky, after looking at this mysterious cable, I cant even understand how it works. Attached are photos I took showing where it connects inside the trunk (on the outside of a shielded cable), how it runs through the trunk, and what it looks like behind the fender liner. I've seen other pictures of the cable inside the fender well and it either had a hook or a loop to pull on. Mine has neither! I tried pulling on the wire and was afraid I'd break something, because it's just pulls against the outside shield on the main release cable.
How can this possibly work? I gave up on my idea but if anyone has more insight please chime in.

Yes, mine is similar. I thought that probably it was moved unitentionally when I removed the trunk mats/covers , but after reviewing the mechanism, it really doesn't look like it will work if ever needed (work without breaking something at least).
Probably I will just put and extension to the voltage cables from the electric lock mechanism and place this wires right
next
to the cable so applying 12v will open it if needed
Can't help anyone understand but this has always been a pet peeve of mine. How "German Engineering" could ever possibly think this is a satisfactory solution is beyond me. Whoever came up with it should have been fired immediately. Surely an after thought and absolutely ridiculous. I'd invest in an alternative solution in a heartbeat, like maybe a genuine pull cable in the door jamb? Geeez.
Yep; given that there's an emergency fuel door pull ring & cable in the passenger door jamb, I don't understand why the same kind of idea wasn't used for the emer. frunk release. Anyone with Porsche insider contacts that can ask this question?...
No idea what
Porsche
was thinking.....or not thinking. I needed to use this emergency release last year, and while it takes MUCH more force to pull than it should, it does release the frunk lid. I used a small pair of Vice Grips with teeth on the jaws to grab my cable.
Don't know if it works or not, and hope I never have to find out, but one of the first things I did on my
Boxster
was to reroute the cable so it now pulls out of the tow hook hole. It looks like a much straighter shot to the frunk release in that position and now I've got enough cable coming out the front to really get some leverage on it.
I just read the thread on this exact issue and there were pictures...removing headlight to find the cable and relocate it to the tow
plug
...when it ghets a little warmer that will be my first mod!
Do you know a difference between your mother-in-law and your dog? Lock each in your frunk for a few hours, open the lid, and see which one is happy to see you.
Because it's logical to have one. The Rube Goldberg donor
battery
jumper'd to the fuse box is another fiasco that wouldn't be needed at all if there were a mechanical cable to open the frunk as a backup.
On the
981
, the door jamb frunk switch must be computer-controlled because it won't function when car is locked. What happens when the computer hangs??

+1 agree that this is bad engineering. that it is still happening in a
718
is disturbing. Yes, I know this is an old thread, but it is an old problem that has not been solved.
I was just taking my 987 out on a rare cool summer day and decided to stop in at the drug store for a pint to take home. put it in the frunk. no problem. get home 5 minutes later. The goddamn thing won't open. so now the driver side of my car is jacked up in the garage, and the effing wheel is off, and there is no effing pull cable anywhere in sight. Even after removing all of the wheel liner. this is BS engineering.
and it's the third time.
so I found the actual hardware that is causing the problem. after a few minutes it sometimes will open again. it is because of the mechanism that is sticking. I've used lubricating oil on the mechanism to no avail. because the problem is the little release cable that is sticking. so the electrical release switch is the problem. here is a photo.
that cable is not popping back after it is pulled. you can use the manual release inside the compartment to test it. personally, I believe this is a violation of the law. this engineering should be contested legally. I'm not just bitching. If someone is legitimately stuck in the front trunk and the battery is disconnected, then they cannot get out. I believe this is against the law. just saying!
The manual emergency release from inside a trunk compartment cannot be based on battery power. this I believe could hold up in court if someone we're inclined to sue Porsche.
Hilarious. My son was with me this morning tinkering with this system. He commented "Dad, did you know this emergency release is
also
electric?". At first, I thought he was kidding.
