Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

No there are no washers corroded in place, the original part looks really well made when it was first fitted to the car back in the day and tightens directly onto the metal of the body work inside the headlight housing, and then two hex bolts can be adjusted to fit the plastic headlight platform, with the new part I was puzzled really, the part is designed to slid into the slots in the body work so why make a new part that doesn't do that properly, that would mean the new parts would be free floating along the body slots it was designed to tighten on to......I actually thought I might have the fixings for another model of Porsche, but I checked the V Pages and its the correct part number....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

Hi Guys thought I would share this with you, I decided to re new the headlight platforms in my Boxster 987.1 I decided to purchase new fixings from Porsche, The Boxsters body metal is 1MM and the max I can screw the new fixings down to is 2mm, The older fixings can be tightened to the metal of the body see the pics, If I was to go ahead and just replace the fixings blindly the whole platform would rattle like a skeleton on a tin roof I will apply a washer to the new part hopefully that will cure the problem, however I shouldn't have to do that........ not good really UPDATE: yes a 20mm washer with a 10mm hole rectified the issue

POST 2Original post

Nick, Why were you replacing them? They don't look like something that would wear out.. and - are you certain the original ones didn't have a washer that's corroded in place?

POST 3Original post

Hi Don Nice to hear from you again No there are no washers corroded in place, the original part looks really well made when it was first fitted to the car back in the day and tightens directly onto the metal of the body work inside the headlight housing, and then two hex bolts can be adjusted to fit the plastic headlight platform, with the new part I was puzzled really, the part is designed to slid into the slots in the body work so why make a new part that doesn't do that properly, that would mean the new parts would be free floating along the body slots it was designed to tighten on to......I actually thought I might have the fixings for another model of Porsche, but I checked the V Pages and its the correct part number.......Perhaps it was the quality engineers day off and a whole batch got through Thanks guys for reading my posting I hope it helps someone somewhere
