Very disappointing. Another example of Porsche playing follow-up. The McLaren actually communicates directly with the factory and requests its own servicing when due. The owner then gets invited to return the car or for a technician to be sent (flown) out to fettle your pride and joy. No need to check the calendar or mileage! Why oh why Porsche still use a service booklet is beyond me. Sometimes the stamps aren't even straight!

The 996 should be serviced once every year. It would either be a annual check (if less then 8k p/a), minor or major. - Depending on when it was last done, sparks (every 4 years), brake fluid (every 2 years) polybelt (every 4 years/major), and airbag check may also be due. What mileage is your vehicle currently on and what was the last service? Service is 12/24k (minor/major) intervals yearly on a 996.

service It has done 48.3k, and I believe was last serviced in November last year with the previous owner when it had done about 40k ish. I will have to check this weekend. In any case it looks like it is due one now.

Yep, as tbrown says - it's a big service at 48k if its a 2003 996.
