Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

you usually get a change in tone when ticking over if you press the button on the dash, if this is not happening then i suggest you have a fault, under the rear lid you should see a series of thin black pipes all connected to a brown solenoid mounted to a thin plate you can test this by disconnecting it and see if it changes too..

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi there new to the site: My 996 c4s has a Switchable exhaust can someone tell me was there an option of a standard or sports silencer as its still fairly quite? also is it possable to have the exhaust silencer modified and have a bypass pipe fitted or is that whats already been done with the switchable system :?: Cheers

POST 2Original post

the sports exhaust switch bypasses the silence via a valve on each silencer so it flows round it instead of through it causing the noise you usually get a change in tone when ticking over if you press the button on the dash, if this is not happening then i suggest you have a fault, under the rear lid you should see a series of thin black pipes all connected to a brown solenoid mounted to a thin plate you can test this by disconnecting it and see if it changes too.. if not would get it into an indy to look at..

POST 3Original post

Hi, Sound is all relative however the porsche sports exhaust particularly on the C4S is loud. Either you do not have it switched on or there is a fault for sure. I get many comments about the grunt my C4S exhibits more so than my brothers AMV8 Get it checked out. Alan.

POST 4Original post

You'll deff know if the note changes as in sport it couldnt be described as quiet. Here's how to disable the cutout between 30-45 works fine, done by removing a solenid in the PSE relay 1. sign up to http://www.renntech.org/forums (you need to be a member to see the details) 2. Click on forums 3. Scroll down and click on 996(Carrera)-DIY 4. Click on DIY Articles - Carrera (996) - Mods 5. Scrool down and click on Remove PSE cutout in 2 minutes, no tools required Just follow the instructions and its no problem

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for your reply, when i push the exhaust switch at tickover there is no difference in sound however when reved up passed 4k i does rasp a bit more. i have had a look for the pipes on a brown solenoid are there two seperate solenoids for each of the exhaust silencers? Cheers. :thumb:

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the responce Dose this mod make a real difference? and will removing the solenid bring up and fault codes? Cheers

POST 7Original post

No difference to the overal sound but removes the auto quieting mode between 30-45, no fault codes will show.
