Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

Hi, Does anybody know if the IMS is still in use in the new 2.9? I know the DFI 3.4 doesn't use it anymore. thanks

POST 2Original post

I was told "no" but I have not verified that in person.

POST 3Original post

The 2.9 motor is the same new block design without the IMS like the 3.4, but it has multi-port injection, not DFI. brad

POST 4Original post

A source from PCNA (same gentleman who erroneously told me the 2010's would be out at the end of the year) told me that the 2.9 does have the intermediate shaft, but that it was "much larger", and that the problems with it were fixed.

POST 5Original post

I respectfully submit that he is mistaken - the PDK needs the new-style block in order to mate-up, as they say - I don't think the PDK will work with the old M97 block. brad

POST 6Original post

All 9A1 blocks (2.9,3.4,3.6,3.8) don't use IMS. Bellhousing bolt-pattern has not been changed - well, Porsche are still using the same Getrag manual gearbox for 987.2 and same Aisin one for 997.2 , aren't they?

POST 7Original post

What is the significance of IMS? From someone who enjoys learning from you guys.

POST 8Original post

p.s. Due to lack of IMS at the bottom of the new engine, Porsche was able to lower the engine and transmission by 10mm in the chassis.
