Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. Suggestion
This is £1200 or £2400 (for two years) and you have will save £150 on the 2 year warraty, as they provide the second annual warranty check foc - or something like that anyway.
Leading evidence: 'Check foc - or something like' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). (low end figure I think), and an extra £500 for servicing and the odd repair...sounds fair I reckon?

Suggestion
In terms of running costs, at the mileage you will get away with 2* minor, 1* major.

Suggestion
Addressing the outstanding PPI issues (brakes/tyres/servicing etc) should ensure at least a couple of years of predictable costs, assuming that these initial costs were used to get the purchase price down and that the car is only being used for 'moderate' mileage.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Am considering buying a 996 Targa, 40k miles approx, say year 2002/2003.
Wondering - how much do you reckon it will depreciate every year (roughly speaking)?
Assume yearly servicing and full care of the car.
It'd be very much a weekend toy so let's say it'd be driven 2k miles/yr.
Thanks!
Hi,
Not sure on depriciation but also consider servicing / maintenance costs with / without warranty as these can be more signiticant. Although from a resale value mileage is a large factor, history, maintenance and condition is probably more important.

Thanks Brumbrum
Am guessing £500/yr
insurance
(low end figure I think), and an extra £500 for servicing and the odd repair...sounds fair I reckon?
What I am trying to assess here is
ASSUME maintenance is done by the letter, good OPS, 2k-ish miles/yr and car stays in good/excellent condition - how much would it depreciate on average every year?
(not so much because of the mileage as it won't be too much but mostly because it's becoming an older car...)
Cheers
Hi,
Pricing wise for maintenance, I would assume you may need the following over a 12month purchase, quite abit more than your calculations.
With Porsche warranty:
porsche warranty - approx £1'200 p/year
Servicing dependant on model year / intervals £750 - 1'000 p/year
consumables / beyond warranty items etc - tyres / brakes / fluids £1'500 - 2'000 p/year.
Depriciation calculations are quite difficult as the market is all over the place at the moment, I would personally work on losing at least 20-25% value on the vehicle over the year, depending on trade/private purchase & sale - but this is really a guess and depends on the time of year / market traits at the time.
cheers
brumbrum
Thanks Brumbum...wow - that is massive
Remember seeing a warranty quote in the £500/yr but that sounded a bit low
Annual servicing (assuming no major issues) have seen people spending around £350/400 on the "minor" service and £750-900 on the "major" with OPS
Consumables - depends how much you drive the car, of course...
Re: depreciation, that assumes the car is worth 0 over the next 4 to 5 yrs...?
Cheers
I would have given a good guess at a rough prediction of depreciation 18 months ago, but all bets have been off during the credit crunch. It is going to be much more about what you pay in the first place, there are still some crazy deals out there if you bide your time as there are still lots of people struggling financially and desperate to get out of their pride and joys...
I do about 2-3k a year in mine and costs so far have been nothing like above. I have had it 2 1/2 years, I self warrant and have so far had about £1,000 of maintenance all in, £300 a year
insurance
and £180 a year tax.
It is difficult to judge depreciation, due to the market.
For example, 2 years ago mine was worth 30k and it's now worth 20k.
I'd estimate that it will drop 2k / yr from now on, but it depends on the market really and how you sell it on (eg. part/ex, private sale etc).
It also depends on the colour combo, owners/history, extras etc.
I think if you budget 20% price drop per year, then that's a worse case scenario (that isn't £0 in 5 years either), it's 16k, 12.8, 10 etc.
In terms of running costs, at the mileage you will get away with 2* minor, 1* major.
Expect £200 for the minor and £1000 for the major (as you'll need things doing in addition to the major, eg. fluids/sparks etc).
Additional costs will depend on what needs doing (and these will typically show up in a PPI), eg. tyres (rears alone, £500), clutch (£1000), drop links (£500 / pair), disc+pads (£500 / pair).
So you might well find yourself having to fork out £3k initially (depending on what needs doing) and then hardly anything.
Insurance
will be around £500-600, but of course depends on lots of things.
On the Targa, they depreciate similar to the coupe, not seasonally like the cabrio.
Targa's (generally) are higher specified that then coupe, but are not as sought after (generally). They also sold in far fewer numbers, mainly due to their original cost (had quite a premium over the coupe).
On the warranty, you can put a warranty on the car up until it's 8th birthday (might be 9, someone will correct me) with an OPC warranty.
This is £1200 or £2400 (for two years) and you have will save £150 on the 2 year warraty, as they provide the second annual warranty check foc - or something like that anyway.
If your car has anything aftermarket, including a bluetooth connection into the radio, OPC will not put a warranty on the car - it has to be as it left the factory, less any tequipment additions (official Porsche accessories).
Sorry, maybe it is me being naive, but those figures seem to be hugely excessive if, for instance, the 996 being purchased is a 5-7 year old car. The key must be buying sensibly and with a good PPI so you know exactly where you stand with the car on day one of ownership. Addressing the outstanding PPI issues (brakes/tyres/servicing etc) should ensure at least a couple of years of predictable costs, assuming that these initial costs were used to get the purchase price down and that the car is only being used for 'moderate' mileage. Adding something like a Hartech maintenance plan (£900/year?) would be sensible and cheaper than an OPC warranty, and would also enhance the cars desirability at resale as it is transferable and not mileage limited.
996 will be entering the flat of the depreciation curve by now and I would probably say that 15% depreciation a year would be a good initial stab, but it would depend on how much you paid in the first place!
