My car is 1 year old and is due for its first oil change.
I have read a lot of posts and have found the the required part numbers. Would you validate if I have the right ones?
Oil filter: 996 107 225 53
Crush washer: 900 123 106 30 or 900 219 009 30
Particle filter: Part number ??? Charcoal or paper filter?
Why does the particle filter need to be changed after only 1 year (3000 miles)?
Anything else I should change?
What will I miss by not going to the dealer?
I will also need a wrench for the filter but have not decided which one to get.
You will probably save money by doing it yourself. What you may miss if the car has not been to a dealer in a year is having the trained mechanics check that all of the systems are working correctly (minor maintenance and what is checked is described in the manual), that there are no leaks and that all your software is up to date. Oh and they will reset the service reminder for you as well.
If you do it yourself you should keep detailed records to show the next buyer that proper servicing as been preformed. Lot's of Porsche buyers are (or should be) very picky about that.
I got the expensive charcoal filter, as well the air filter and changed at the same time. I just went to teh dealer and got all the parts. I recommend ordering from Suncoast or Sunset. M1 0W40 is available widely here.
Sorry, I do not have the part numbers with me.
Part numbers:
oil filter wrench: 000-721-920-40 $35.25 usd
screw
plug
: 900-219-009-30 $3.25 usd
Charcoal cabin filter: 997-571-219-01 $59.95 usd
Engine air filter: 987-110-133-00 $28.85 usd
I would recommend the expensive charcoal air filter. I changed mine after 12,000 miles/ 6 months and I was really surprised at how dirty it was. I did the service myself and took it into my Dealer for the final checks and
ecu
flash and they signed off on my service book to keep everything straight.
Part number for first oil change?
I have read most if not all posts about oil change and would appreciate some clarification
What is the right part number for the oil filter? 996-107-225-53 or 996-107-225-60?
Do I have to replace the drain plug and the crush washer or the crush washer only?
Is the 900-219-009-30 the right part number for the drain plug?
Is 900-123-106-30 the right part numer for the crush washer?
May I suggest that the part numbers be added to the article in the How-To section?
Re: Part number for first oil change?
Based on older threads, either one will work - the last 2 numbers apparently have something to do with the manufacturer ID.
Just the crush washer.
Not sure about those, but if you call or order from
Suncoast
(sponsor) they'll make sure you get the right part.

Threads merged...

Porsche used to put a magnet in the drain plugs hence the aluminum. Handy to catch whatever chunks were floating around so that you could tell. Wonder if it was cost cutting or just because it scared owners when there was bit of fuzz on it that the magnet was deleted?
Still think it makes sense having the drain
plug
made out of something no stronger than the pan like a steel
plug
would be. Much harder to strip out the pan threads.
