Suggestion
If you do lots of DE's, you'll need to replace it more often, but the factory recommended fluid can handle the temps of DE's.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer trips)
OK, so I did some reasearch not long ago and found all kinds of complaints in here about ATE Blue for DE use.
But I don't do DEs... maybe one or two this year tops. However I am planning to do about 20 autocrosses this season and possibly 4-5K in driving. What should I replace my OEM break fluid with this season? Motul or ATE?
If Motul, which one?
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
It is hearsay that ATE gold is Porsche oem brake fluid. For autocross I believe ATE is good enough. When changing to Motul you have to do a complete flush. ATE and porsche fluid or compatible, and less hydroscopic(water loving, absorbing) than Motul. Motul should be changed once a year minimum. ATE could go for two years, I would not do that for high performance applications.
They are both good fluids their focus is a little different. Some people swear by ATE for track applications, I have no personal experience. I use Motul 600.
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
I think Beez looked up the specs on the Porsche factory fluid and found them to be better than Super Blue, and about the same as Motul but I don't recall the specifics.
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
From my prior research I'd suggest saving your money and staying with the factory stuff. They do know what they are doing (that holds true for most of the things that people want to change on the car as well in my experience).
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
You really don't need special fluid if you're going to autocross this much and maybe do a couple of DEs, unless you're an advanced-group driver in the DEs.
Don't use Motul for this, not only is it overkill, but what a lot of folks don't understand is that Motul, and other super-high boiling-point fluids, absorb a lot more moisture, more quickly than most other fluids. If you use this stuff you'll want to be flushing your system about every 90 days, tops. For people who race or do a lot of DEs. it's no big deal, because they're bleeding/flushing their systems a lot, sometimes before every event.
The factory fluid has the same specs as ATE amber - ATE Blue is slightly (like 5 degrees) higher - must be the blue dye.
Indeed - for what you're going to use it for, there's no reason to pay a bunch more for exotic brake fluid - AX is really not that hard on brakes.

Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
+1 re: your comments about Motul and ATE, although ATE Blue is exactly the same as ATE 200 (amber) except for the stains everything dye.

Got to love being a member here! I am about to blow more money than I should and bunch of you are stopping me, you must be in cahoots with my wife :hilarious:
Good to know, I will stick with OEM. I assume that I should not worry about flushing clutch reservoir just yet?
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
Apollo:
From memory, my research showed that the factory brake fluid dry and wet boiling points spec out identical to Pentosin Super DOT4+. Sorry, I don't have the data to support this right now. But I've used the factory fluid exclusively and have done over 30 days of DE at some high spped tracks without any brake issues. Complete flush once a year, and bleed prior to each event. FWIW I drive a 2.7L/5-speed and have used stock, Ferodo DS2500, Pagid Sport, and Pagid Orange brake pads. No other brake or suspension mods (other than a track-oriented wheel alignment.)
Hope this helps,
Dave
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
So is Pentosin the same thing? Or should I be getting ATE gold?
Besides your local stealership, where did you buy your OEM break fluid?
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
I get the OEM fluid from the local dealership, or the local shop that does my "between-the-dealership-service" brake flushes and oil changes. You can also get it from site sponsor Suncoast.

Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
There is more to brake fluid than wet and dry boiling points.
In my old 993, I once flushed out the factory stuff for one of the high end fluids, and within days my clutch slave cylinder failed. There was something about the high end brake fluid that the seals in my slave cylinder didn't like; I think it was perhaps a lack of lubrication properties. I did some research and found that this is fairly common. I had to replace the clutch slave and also re-flush with factory brake fluid.
I'll be sticking with Porsche recommended fluid in my Cayman. Unless you've really upgraded your whole braking system, it's all you need. If you do lots of DE's, you'll need to replace it more often, but the factory recommended fluid can handle the temps of DE's.
Re: Should I do Motul or ATE Blue for break fluid this season (20AXs & some longer tr
Thanks for the advice. Suncoast needs to have another sale, so I can stock up on some stuff
Sorry, business ops person in me does not allow me to pay retail :hilarious:
