Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wondering if someone could help please? Seem to be having an intermittant fault with the remote locking. A couple of weeks ago when i got out of the car and tried to lock the doors with the key remote, they would not lock. The red light on fob came on and so did the interior light in the car ... so was quite puzzled, anyway opened the door and started engine, tried to lock again and it was fine so just put it down to one of those things. Anyway it happened again last week and had to do the same, again it locked ok... But today, I locked the car, went into a shop for no more than ten minutes returned to car and it wouldn't open with remote fob!! tried loads of times but nothing, again interior light came on as though it should open and the red light lit up on the fob... In the end I risked opening car manually which set the alarm off but, then I got the key in the ignition and started the engine... Fortunately it started and the alarm stopped!! Rather embarassing though. Anyway, then came home and put the car in the garage where I locked and unlocked it half a dozen times with no problem... I'm very puzzled.. Incidentally when it happened at home a few weeks back I tried the other key and same thing happened so not convinced its the fob thats the problem... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ..... hopefully not too expensive to fix... Many thanks Richard 2003 996 C2

POST 2Original post

Richard I have had some similar experiences, a very random problem... Hopefully someone knows something... Cheers

POST 3Original post

could possibly be an ecu fault but get codes read if i were you... the other thing is whilst i worked at opc i finished working on a cayenne , parked it up then went back inside.. customer came back in 5 mins later saying keyfob not working :?: went back out with customer and t'was right it was inop.. scratching my head as it was fine when i left it i got piwis out to look for faults non found.. then tried fob again it was fine UNTIL the bloody rac man started messing with the flat bed remote for his truck.. turns out his remote control for the flatbed was blocking the frequency on the cayenne remote rendering it useless once he had gone everything was fine and away the customer went.. so something in your area may be scrambling it

POST 4Original post

My 99 C2 remote central locking has been a bit reluctant to lock or unlock the car since I bought it, it's been in for a service at a reputable inde in the mean time and no faults reported. I tried renewing the battery in the key fob to rule that out as a cause, but it's still behaving similarly. I might be wrong but it seems to be worse in colder weather.
